Assault On My Weapon

I live just west of Chicago. A few days ago a little 14 year old girl was killed by some thug. She was sitting on the steps of her home in the early evening and he drove by and shot her with an AK-47. Turns out it may have been a domestic dispute. Story is still developing.

The outrage is tremendous.

Not about the thug culture that exists in the south side of Chicago
Not at the limited police efforts in controlling the thugs (a Policy of as long as they don’t kill white folks It’s OK)
Not at the thugs themselves

No the real outrage is at the Assault Weapons. "This wouldn’t happen if assault weapons were outlawed," the people say.

Except in the city of Chicago they already are. And statewide automatic weapons are illegal.

And it’s nearly impossible to get a handgun permit in Chicago.

I wonder if the thugs who shot this little girl had a FOID (Firearms Owners Identification Document) on them. This is an Illinois thing. It’s basically registering guns. I wonder if the guy who shot her was background checked when he bought the rifle.

I was driving down Roosevelt Road in Chicago a few years ago and a kid who couldn’t have been more than 14 walked across the road in front of my car carrying a .357 magnum pistol in plain sight. I’m glad I didn’t honk at him to get out of my way.

But the liberals in Chicago (and there are plenty) will holler about assault weapons. What is an assault weapon? In the wrong hands a baseball bat is an assault weapon, a rolling pin is an assault weapon, my fists can be an assault weapon. The truth is the paucity of the liberal program to fix the wrong problem and ignore the real one means they really believe that gun control solves the problem.

It’s like changing the tire because the car won’t start.

At the risk of using someone else’s words:  It is not the gun who kills, it is the person pulling the trigger and when guns are outlawed, only criminals will have guns.  This is an example.  I am 100% for enforcement of the existing laws.  Law abiding citizens who have passed a background check should, and are in my state, be able to carry them for their own protection

Who wants to bet that the guy that shot the girl should have already been in jail?

Well said, Gene.  Mickey Mouse laws like those that Daley and Blagojevic espouse make your home more dangerous, not safer.

And Whistler, I certainly won’t be betting against you.

It doesn’t seem to matter that gun laws are not only ineffective in preventing crime, and tend to punish otherwise law-abiding citizens, and that they are unconstitutional.  The lefties keep pushing them anyway.  Makes you wonder what their real agenda is.  Maybe they really don’t like the Constitution.

We must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time and anyone who would own a gun out of fear of such a lunatic is paranoid.

Welcome to the upside down liberal world.

If that 14-year-old girl had been carrying a gun, none of this would have happened.

Dave, probably not true--the article states that she was killed by a stray bullet.  Carrying doesn’t help that.

And Whistler is correct; the person doing the shooting was already a felon and thus prohibited from carrying any weapon, let alone a Kalishnikov which (if the article be trusted) was fully automatic, requiring a special permit to own.  The shooter was in violation of Chicago law, state law, and federal law before he ever put a clip into his rifle.

But another law would have stopped him, of course.

There are enough strict gun laws on the books already. Problem is that they are not enforced hard enough. The guy git an AK. Okay - I am not belittleing the childs life in any way, but you cannot stop a gun, you stop the person. A gun in itself is only a gun. In the hands of some wacko it’s a weapon. As for the left wing loonies and right side as well - they can have my guns when I’m dead. Try before hand and it’s war. UN included. I see little blue helmets in my streets and there will be little blue helmets on the ground in the street. My heart goes out to the childs family though.
