As Viewership Plunges, NBC Starts Refunding Advertising Money

Things are looking grim at NBC these days.

There are probably a lot of contributing factors to the network’s decline, such as the rise of other entertainment mediums such as the internet, but I can’t help but feel that a lot of their decline might have to do with their relatively recent move toward liberal preachiness.

Turning a NFL halftime show into a 20 minute sermon on global warming, for instance, can’t be good for ratings.

Was that a slip of the tongue or just a painfully obvious peek into the delusional world of the rightarded?

News is not ENTERTAINMENT.  And if you think it is, that is the reason why our news is so horrible these days, because people confuse News with entertainment (see Hannity and Colmes, Bill O’Reilly, Glen Beck and the likes).

H: News used to be news, but it has become entertainment.  Newspeople are stars now.  Just look at any news promo, either national or local, in the MSM.  Katie Couric is a prime example.  Politics is showbiz for the unattractive.  The MSM hasn’t been real news since they lied about Tet.

The real question here is if NBC will start doing what any failing business does: change their product to make it more desirable.  We’ll see.  If their real agenda is to be part of the Dem Ministry of Propaganda, they won’t change anything.

This has very little to do with NBC news.  It has to do with all their programming.

Your bias is showing.

It’s same problem; NBC’s leftie agenda shines through its entire product line.

Can someone decipher what the Hanittized leftard is talking about? Talk about incoherent and delusional.

Let’s dissect:

There are probably a lot of contributing factors to the network’s decline, such as the rise of other entertainment mediums such as the internet

Where’s the talk of news. So, the internet is not entertainment. How about throwing in bassett hounds have floppy ears. What a dumbass, completely nonsensical diatribe against whatever craps rolling around in her head. I guess that’s what you get when you’re not given specific talking-points. It was probably more a reflex on her part to start whining about news programming since the leftards don’t have a monopoly on networks willing to carry their water in all aspects of programming anymore. What a shame.

I wrote to MSNBC and NBC on previous occasions asking them about their sagging ratings and asking them if they ever considered whether it could be tied to their extreme liberalism. Of course, despite the fact they were quite polite messages, neither chose to answer. The problem is they do not see that they have a liberal bias, I honestly don’t believe they feel that they are for all intent and purposes a propaganda ministry for the Democrat National Committee.

We all like to think we are fair and absent partisan bias and that we are only using the facts to defend our beliefs. But, biased journalism has always existed, it is the nature of the news beast; that is, advocating social policies that adhere to one’s world views. Journalism, is called upon to report news about the human condition, so it naturally attracts people of a liberal mindset that are educated in liberal universities and hired by liberal publishers and producers to reflect the world views on the people funding these programs or news periodicals.

Unfortunately, these journalism students are never encouraged to just unearth the facts and report them with editorializing the material. Rather, they present the facts that they felt best illustrated the essence of the story from their liberal mindset and make sure the end product reflects those views.

My point is, I don’t think these people are particularly evil people, they are simply reflecting the news as they see it in their liberal minds. Sadly, when challenged by lower ratings and even when confronted with their biased presentation of the news, their natural instinct is to circle the wagons and force themselves to believe that it is never the message or their bias, it is how it is packaged and that tends to make most of them to try and make news more entertaining or do something really stupid like hire Katie Couric.

They are mostly, self deluded victims of their own narrow minded bias and most of them will never be able to face that simple fact and change the way they twist the facts to promote their liberal views. I would feel sorry for them except they are accessories to the creeping socialist policies of the Democrats and that is destructive to America.

I was talking about NBC as a network, not NBC News specifically.  And since NBC is actually a lot more entertainment programming then news programming, my point is valid.

Try reading for comprehension next time.

Being a conservative, I’m far too intelligent to expect any sort of an honest reply, but I often wonder how many of the leftwing adolescents who disparage Fox News have actually watched Fox News and know what they’re talking about.

It would also be interesting to know what each of FNC’s self-styled liberal critics considers to be “fair and balanced” by comparison.  They are, after all, the same twits who yammer about the need for the so-called “fairness doctrine.”

Noticed you’re confused in your word usage here.  You’ve used the word “news” to mean at least three different things…

I love watching you condescending lefties fumble with logical thinking, like it’s something you don’t get to practice very often…

Its no wonder the Left and the MSM keeping talking about a recession.  CNN’s credibility, NBC’s viewer audience, CBS’ ratings, and the NYT ad revenues, circulation, and stock price all continue to slide into oblivion, almost in unison.

Oh, did I mention that Shepard Smith signed a new contract with FNC 2 weeks ago?  $7 million per year.

To be fair, I sometimes get a little irritated with some of the tabloid-type stories Fox does, but then none of the other news networks are innocent of that so it’s not like it’s a problem unique to them.

Rob,

I agree.  But I am even more irritated with the seemingly universal notion that interview shows, such as O’Reilley’s and Larry King’s, or magazine shows such as “60 Minutes” and “48 Hours” constitute news programming.  They don’t.

I think the difference in liberal and conservative perspective on the news comes down to a fundamentally opposite approach.  Liberals despise Fox News for what Fox says.  Conservatives abhor CNN and the networks for what they don’t say.

As much as I would like to, I don’t think we can pin all of NBC’s current fortunes on their liberal bent.  While their viewership has probably been flagging due to their liberal friendly line-up, it’s probably continued writers strike that has tipped them over the edge.

That and they killed their crown jewel, the Law and Order franchise.  Let’s see, they put off the original series premier until January, they gave away the Criminal Intent series to USA, and they turned Special Victims Unit into “Loose Change: the TV show” (or as I like to call it when my wife watches it, “SCU” [special conspiracy unit]).  After that, what do they have, “ER” and “Heroes”.  I think “ER” probably should have gone off the air back when Clinton was still in office.  Do they still have Goose from Top Gun on there?

Actually “Goose” was the best part of ER.  I stopped watching when he left.

But notice that you’re going back to the “they went liberal” theory in describing what they’ve done to SVU.

A Tale of Two Networks: NBC: Sagging ratings, dwindling revenues, declining viewership. FNC: Soaring ratings, increased revenues, highest viewership. How could that happen!!??

Hey, I didn’t say that their liberal agenda wasn’t part of the decline or even that it wasn’t the major reason for the decline; just that I think the writer’s strike is responsible for tipping them over the edge.
