As Personal Gun Ownership In Michigan Goes Up, Crime Goes Down

Whenever a loosening of gun policy is brought up in a state we get the usual chorus of doom and gloom from liberals.  They tell us that with more citizens owning and carrying guns the streets will run red with the blood of shooting victims.  But the truth is that the more citizens who are allowed to own/carry weapons, the less dangerous the streets become.

The most recent example of his phenomena is Michigan.

Six years after new rules made it much easier to get a license to carry concealed weapons, the number of Michiganders legally packing heat has increased more than six-fold.

But dire predictions about increased violence and bloodshed have largely gone unfulfilled, according to law enforcement officials and, to the extent they can be measured, crime statistics.

The incidence of violent crime in Michigan in the six years since the law went into effect has been, on average, below the rate of the previous six years. The overall incidence of death from firearms, including suicide and accidents, also has declined.

It’s amazing what happens when you allow citizens to be self-reliant.

Why carry a concealed weapon? It seems that carrying unconcealed weapons might be even more beneficial.

First of all open carry makes you a target, plus it’s fairly uncomfortable having people look at you funny because ya got a hogleg on your hip.

And of course you can be disarmed easier if you’re in open carry because obviously they know you have it.

On the other hand concealed carry protects a person somewhat even if he doesn’t happen to be carrying.  If the person is perceived as maybe having a gun it will likely scare off the bad guy.

The facts are in, concealed carry makes the person and society safer.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

I remember when this passed. The gay liberal idiots I lived with were all worried about Michigan becoming “the wild, wild west”.

ews48 - Why carry a concealed weapon?

Do you know who is armed? Neither do the criminals. Think that might be a deterrent?

As Lik and Whistler note, ews, when people carry concealed, it keeps the criminal element guessing.  There are few better deterrents to crime than uncertainty about whether people will be shooting back.

Hey, Bubba, I guess we can agree on something after all!

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

I guess we can conclude that gun confiscation equals a decline in public safety. I recently renewd my NRA membership because of the hint or slight chance that Barrack Hussein Obama or Hillary Clinton being elected.

Hey that’s kinda cool that he played Paul Drake Jr. in the movies.

Does that mean that Paul Sr and Della “got it on?”
