As Economy Worsens Obama Makes More Promises

Worried about the economy? Don’t worry, Obama’s got things firmly in hand. He issued a decree mandating the creation of 3 million jobs instead of just the 2.5 million he was requiring before.
Everything is gonna be alright.

WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama has increased his employment goal with the nation’s economic outlook worsening, seeking to create or save 3 million jobs in the next two years instead of the 2.5 million he proposed last month.
Obama set the more ambitious target earlier this week after meeting with top economic advisers who cautioned that the nation’s unemployment rate could exceed 9 percent given the current pace of job losses, Obama transition officials said Saturday.
During the presidential campaign, Obama pledged to create or save 1 million jobs. He increased that goal to 2.5 million over two years just last month.

So how’s Obama going to create these jobs? With a spending package worth a scary 5% of our GDP that will either force Obama to raise taxes higher than they already are (always a good idea during a recession, right?) or blow up our already exploded national debt.
Because that makes more sense than cutting tax and regulatory burdens on businesses. You know, the entities that actually create the jobs Obama’s talking about.
If Obama thinks he’s going to stimulate this economy by making bold promises about job creation and keeping taxes high to pay for CFL light bulbs in public buildings he’s in for a rude awakening.
Carternomics doesn’t work.

What policies did democrats institute that led to the crisis?

Insisting banks give slackers mortgages so they could move out of their parents’ basement, jacking up the government mandated wage floor, extending unemployment checks, restricting development of new energy, among other things.

  • NoJelly

The only reason Libs demand to raise taxes is the fact that they don’t want to be seen in the bread lines with the rest of us…

Guaranteed, members of our ruling class won’t be going without any meals, regardless of how low they sink this economy.

I’m not offended. You shouldn’t be either. It’s just a blog on the internet……

  • pparets

    Dino opines…

The primary blame rests with the party in charge during the last decade or more.

… irrespective of the fact that very few actions of congress are along party lines… most result from bipartisan support.

“Primary blame” – if there is such a thing – belongs to the constituents back home and what they demand from their representatives.

Example: regardless of affiliation, congressmen from Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa will vote as a bloc on farm legislation. Likewise, democrats – regardless of their anti-war rhetoric – always vote yes on bills which bring money and jobs to defense industries in their states, as will republicans.

Also, in spite of campaign rhetoric, President-elect Obama’s cabinet picks make it clear he will be a centrist, not a leftist. Example: All through the election, Barack Obama said again and again that he did not support gay marriage. So, why would homosexual groups be hysterical at his choice of Rick Warren to deliver the invocation? Duh.

Dino lacks the maturity to understand how the political system really works.

He thinks our political process is some kind of high school sport in which he gets to be a cheerleader for the left – and not a very good one, at that.

  • pparets

Thus they receive the blame when the opposite occurs.

You just don’t get it, do you?

Regardless of anyone’s claims, prosperity – to the extent that it has anything to do with government at all – is a congressional accomplishment, not a partisan one.

In truth, prosperity usually occurs in spite of government, not because of it.

If we were experiencing Utopian dreams of a great economy full of prosperity brought about by tax cuts, deregulation and waging unnecessary wars, the republicans would be grabbing all the credit.

Thus they receive the blame when the opposite occurs.

Jobs: Obama starts out with 1 million, then 2.5 million and now 3 million new jobs to be created.

Kind of sounds like his tax plan. Started out promising no tax increases for those making $250,000, then it went down to $200,000 during the last debate, then $150,000.

This dufus doesn’t have a clue about anything, totally indecisive and ignorant when it comes to running a nation. This country is going to slide into a great depression with a much greater impact than 1929 – better start preparing now, if you’re smart!

  • syn

You’re part of a group doing a project at work. The leader(s) of the group lay out their caase for how it is to be done. You disagree but are overruled and the work progresses as the leaders want. Despite your resistance you must go along because the power rests with someone else

However, on most all issues except national defense, lowering taxes and banning the practice of sucking a human brain from the skull, President Bush led primarily Democrat projects such as No Child Left Behind (with King Kennedy standing by his side), Expanding Medicare/Medicaid through drug prescription for elderly(with Congressional D’s standing by his side), find a cure for AIDS in Africa (with Bono and Geffen standing by his side), farm subsidies to grow corn for cars, illegal Amnesty Guest Worker program, and bailing out bad mortgages and badly run business.

Dino, I agree with you, Liberal policies usually end up bombing.

Unfortunately over the next several years we are about to be clustered bombed with Liberal policies.

As an aside, I often think of President Bush as JFK only JFK didn’t have to deal with abortion.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

The anti-American left (just look at the kook in this thread) doesn’t want us to discuss anything Obama or anything that Obama proposes.

    Gee,…wonder why?

Obama doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, therefore any criticism or question is seen as “sitting in the back of the room throwing rocks at everyone”.

You’re not allowed to throw rocks, unless those rocks are shoes and the target is the current President, in which case the leftist double standard comes into play and everything at that point becomes A-okay.

Are there any ADULTS on the left? Where?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

Wow, those dems sure are amazing! They lost control of Congress in 94 and didn’t get it back until 2007 and THEY led the right wing President’s with THEIR agenda! Wow, so where were the republicans? Hiding under their desks? Under the covers unable to leave their beds? And poor bush, being led by the minority opposition party.

You are deluded. But conservatives are weasels who blame when they f*ck up amd grab the credit that should go to others when things go right. We’ve all worked with these types before.

PS. The Medicare drug benefit was rammed through against democratic opposition. Even the voting procedure was highly unusual with the republicans leaving the vote open for hours while they hammered members to vote for it. Dems wanted it studied a way to pay for it created.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

No one failed under either Carter or Clinton. If you could engage your frontal lobes and do some research you’d see how wrong you were.

As for the stem who wants to blame the dems who held a one-seat majority from January 07: Who was President? What policies did democrats institute that led to the crisis? How many times did bush veto their actions? How many times did the republicans filibuster? How did you manage to ignore the 28 years of pursuing conservatism? Who ran the country during the bubble forming years of 2000-2007?

No one believes your lies and idiocy. That’s why you got your ass handed to you in 2006 and 2008. And also why your guys will be out of power for many, many years.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

You think of bush as JFK?

So many things that could be said here all of which could garner me a visit from the Secret Service.

    So I won’t.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama has increased his employment goal with the nation’s economic outlook worsening, seeking to create or save 3 million jobs in the next two years instead of the 2.5 million he proposed last month.

As long as the job loss stops, Obama can claim he saved 5 million or 10 million or 50 million. He really IS our savior.

  • http://ndgoon.blogspot.com/ goon

Yeah, I would like to see how NOBAMA thinks WE are going to pay for it.

  • RebTex

Is it a pre-requisite to be crazy to be a dem?
    YOU make the call!

“A day after he was charged with stabbing his companion in the face with a broken glass, State Senator-elect Hiram Monserrate said he was incapable of such a crime, and vowed to take his Senate seat come Jan. 1.

In a one-page statement issued Saturday evening, Mr. Monserrate said he deeply loved and cared for his companion, Karla Giraldo, and called her injuries an “unfortunate accident.”

“…According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Monserrate stabbed Ms. Giraldo in the face with a broken glass during a heated argument, causing a black eye and a cut that required 20 stitches to close. The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Friday in his Jackson Heights apartment. Prosecutors said the couple were arguing over an undisclosed item Mr. Monserrate had found in her purse. But Mr. Monserrate said in court papers that he tripped while bringing Ms. Giraldo a glass of water, causing the injuries… ”
“…Questions have also swirled around what Mr. Monserrate did next. Instead of taking Ms. Giraldo to Elmhurst Hospital Center, five blocks from his apartment, he drove her 12 miles to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Nassau County, along the Queens border…”
“..Mr. Monserrate is a former Marine and served 12 years in the New York Police Department before getting a psychological disability pension in 2000,…”
    .
    .
    .
So… In 2000, he was too crazy to be a cop & won a pension.
Now, he won an election & attacked his girlfriend in a terrible way, stalled on her medical attention.
What a PROUD day for his local political supporters…….
Considering his left affiliation, it’s no wonder his psychological disability wasn’t reported.

You know, people whose ideas bring down an organization are usually chastened by their failures. You people seem to only get more arrogant.

Here’s the deal: Your guys ran the country for a long time. The country hit the skids as a result. The people replaced your guys because they screwed up BAD. A new set of guys wants to try and fix things and you sit in the back of the room throwing rocks at everyone.

That’s ballsy. Obama needs to start demonizing republicans and he needs to start soon.

  • RebTex

    I have to agree.

It worked for Carter; he’s got a government check for the rest of his life along with his embittered wife.

Not really, the Democrats controlled the congress for the last two years, subsequently this is the same period of time our economy started it’s nose dive. The previous six years were not all bad. The GDP exceeded Clintons and the quarterly growth also exceeded Clintons. Considering the economic damage from 911 and two wars we maintained a reasonable rate of growth. Prior to 2007, I actually made back all the loss from the technology bust of 2000 and I was slightly ahead. My average income has gone up every year for the past 33 years of course so have my taxes.

All I can say is don’t make too many promises you can not keep. That is a sure way to get the public to turn on you.
Barry O hasn’t done anything yet, I hope he can live up to your expectations. For myself, I have no faith in him or the Democrats so I won’t be disappointed. Neither have much of a track record to brag on.

  • Hannitized

I haven’t been incharge of anything. Also, notice how the economy has tanked since the Dems took the congress and senate over.

Yeah, that is a great point. Much like it is the fault of Bush for the economic issues we fell into right after his election…..right?

  • pparets

Dino has good points on this one… there is plenty of blame to go around on both sides of the aisle.

  • syn

A new set of guys wants to try and fix things

However the next administration is not full of new guys, it’s full of guys who failed under Carter and Clinton.

Secondly your problem is assuming government can FIX things when in fact, no matter the party, government creates problems which restrict prosperity; this is why your pipe dream is about to go up in smoke.

As a matter of fact historical trends since the mid 1890′s to the present show that every time Congress was in session markets lose and when out of session markets gain. Ergo the more government intervenes, the more the American citizen will lose.

Freedom from tyranny, this is how prosperity wins.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

The primary blame rests with the party in charge during the last decade or more.

Here’s the analogy. You’re part of a group doing a project at work. The leader(s) of the group lay out their caase for how it is to be done. You disagree but are overruled and the work progresses as the leaders want. Despite your resistance you must go along because the power rests with someone else. They were put in power so you decide that the people who put them in power want to pursue the leaders’ imperatives.

The group fails, the project bombs. Whose fault is it?

Using that analogy, the people who granted the power are ultimately to blame. That would be the American people. Next in line is the republicans. Which is why I have no sympathy for republican voters and want to see the new leaders punish the holy crap out of the republicans.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

Poor Kevin, he doesn’t read much. I’ve refuted those contentions a million times here. Besides, who was in power? REPUBLICANS.

    Try and keep up, Kevin-stem.

    …to create or save 3 million jobs…

    Holy cowardly weaselwords, Batman!

That’s like me saying “I will earn, OR NOT LOSE, a million dollars before March 1st of next year.

It’s a bullshit promise from the biggest piece of bullshit to ever roll down the pike.

  • John D

Obama can claim success as long as there are 3 million people left with jobs.

But he won’t have to. His adoring supporters in the press will do it for him.
