Artist Makes Video Game Where Goal Is To Kill The President

He’s calling it “confrontational art.”

An artist’s video game that is being exhibited at a free-speech exhibit in Chicago challenges players to kill the president. The video game is part of a “confrontational art” exhibit by Chicago-based artist Wafaa Bilal.

In the 3-D game, “The Night of Bush Capturing; A Virtual Jihadi,” players are sent on a mission to kill President George W. Bush.

Bilal, 42, said his art is a personal attempt to deal with the deaths of citizens in the country of his birth. The artist said his brother died in Iraq in 2004 from a U.S bomb.

Glenn Reynolds sums up how I feel about this:

IF SOMEBODY DID THIS ABOUT OBAMA it would be a national scandal and evidence of America’s incurable bigotry. But since it’s an artist named Wafaa Bilal and it’s about Bush it’s just “confrontational art”

To me this “art” sounds more like a revenge fantasy created by someone who needs psychological help.

God, I wish people would chill out. Artists are suppose to inspire, but there is only one way that he could possibly inspire someone, and that’s in a negative manner. It would seem that he has to hide his ego behind his methods of art. Art IS freedom of speech, but I appreciate those who use their gifts to do good things. He’s even putting his own life and career on the line for something that he could quickly forget about. That’s so pathetic and reckless.

Free speech does not cover EVERYTHING.
It is not free speech to scream fire in a crowded theater.
It is not free speech to go the wrong way on the freeway.
It is not free speech to randomly shoot people as ‘performance art’.

Mr. Artist needs a visit from Mr. SecretServiceMan and a nice long stay in a hospital to recover from having all of his arms and legs broken..... (it’s FREE SPEECH!)

So wait...only movies can portray this? I mean, a lot of movies do focus on the assassination of the President, so why can’t a video game?

I don’t think it’s necessarily promoting the act...I mean, have movies promoted it?

No.

Cheap Wow Gold:

I mean, have movies promoted it?

If you mean, has a voice-over come on at the end and said, “OK, now that you have seen how it’s done, go shoot the president.”, then the answer is no.

But, if vitual realities like movies - and in particular, interactive video games - stimulate some to go to the next step - Dylan and Kliebold come to mind - then the answer is, very possibly yes.

Law enforcement agencies all across the country have noted the slow but steady increase in suburban youth violence since the Grand-theft Auto game series emerged.

Psychologists have noted similar trends among Brad Pitt’s ‘Fight Club’ affecionados.

Coincidence? Possibly.

The difference is that the movies usually have the Bad Guys trying to kill the President.

While I don’t think this should be illegal, I hope it will be a business failure.
