The DREAM Act, by the way, (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) is in fact before Congress now – not that we have too much to worry about when it comes to this Congress getting anything done, even a lame piece of legislation like this – and the ACLU does in fact support it.

Ten states are currently defying this federal law. Section 616 would allow these and all other states to offer in-state tuition rates to any illegal alien who obtains the Z visa and attends college.
The injustice of this provision is obvious. Illegal aliens would receive a taxpayer subsidy worth tens of thousands of dollars and would be treated better than U.S. citizens from out of state, who must pay three to four times as much to attend college. In an era of limited educational resources and rising tuitions, U.S. citizens, not aliens openly violating federal law, should be first in line to receive education subsidies.
Further, legal aliens who possess an appropriate F, J, or M student visa would not receive this valuable benefit. Nor would they be eligible for the federal student loans that illegal aliens could obtain by this provision.

The sheer insanity of this leaves me speechless. Are these people mentally ill?

Funny, I thought we already were! Maybe not fully, but in those states giving in-state tution discounts to illegal aliens, to some degree we are paying for their tuition.

I have no idea why this posted twice.

That’s ok, it’s a good post. I think any member of the ACLU should be committed. I think that they should pass a bill that requires colleges and universities to report these illegals for deportation. That should be the only obligation that institutions of higher learning should have in this matter – not providing them with lower tuition than most citizens.

If they are going to punish employers for hiring illegals under the theory that that promotes breaking the law, then government employees that give tuition breaks and other benefits should be treated even more harshly.

I agree that we need to end socialism. However, voting for Republicans will no more bring that dream to pass than voting for Democrats, or nearly anyone else who runs for office these days.

The only difference between the Republicans and Democrats is the kind of socialism they foist upon us. That is to say, the Rs differ from the Ds only in who would benefit from their brand of socialism.

Under Democrats, of course, programs are created to reward people who don’t work and obey the law at the expense of those who do. Under Republicans, the tax codes are revised to benefit corporations with fat military contracts, and the taxes collected are used to prop them up so they can prepare for unprovoked attacks against countries that have never posed a threat to the US. These attacks whip people into a frenzy, which makes them willing to go along with an administration that wants to redistribute people’s incomes even more toward the corporations that fuel the war effort and fill the politicians’ coffers.

So, if you’re going to choose between the two major parties, you’re just deciding between two different flavors of socialism. The political system needs to be completely overhauled.

AP: I hate to have to be the one to break it to you, but govt is inherently socialistic(central authority). The best govt is minimal govt, dedicated to protecting our sovereignty and a few other things. At least the Republicans are not totally moronic about economics, like the Dems are. The Dems and their interest groups want to destroy the free enterprise system and reward the parasites. BTW, another name for corporations is “employers” and “taxpayers”. Think about it. The two “sides” are not even close to being equal.
