Are Halloween Costumes Becoming Too Sexy?

There’s a couple of articles on that topic out in the media right now (this one from Newsweek pretty much sums them all up), and those sort of articles are becoming a yearly tradition around Halloween time.  Now, personally, as a heterosexual male I don’t have a problem with provocative Halloween costumes.  Just not on 12-year-olds.

But most people tend to blame these sexy costumes on the costume designers, and I’m not sure that’s appropriate.  The costume designers are, after all, fulfilling a demand.  If people out there weren’t buying these revealing costumes, they wouldn’t be selling them.

The real problem here are the parents who are just fine with their 12-year-old dressing up in a skimpy French maid outfit for Halloween.  Which sort of reminds me of another issue along these lines.  A few years back there was some controversy about a video game called Grand Theft Auto San Andreas having a cheat code in it that allowed a player’s character to have sex with a hooker.  There were crowds of parents who were outraged by this, wondering how the video gamer makers could have put something like that in the game.  But the reality is that these same parents were just fine with buying their kids a game where the point is to go on a crime spree that includes stealing cars and murdering people.  Often by bludgeoning them to death rather graphically.

Which leaves us with the fact that these parents were just fine when the video game consisted of murdering hookers, but not fine when it consisted of having sex with them.

A rather bizarre situation, if you ask me.

I believe the best part of Halloween is that the costumes are sexy. If anyone is complaining it isnt the men thats for sure.

Hey, I’m 100% in favor of skimpy Halloween costumes on women.  And while skimpy costumes on men isn’t exactly my thing, I’m not going to judge others on that.

I just have a problem with skimpy or suggestive costumes on kids.

I feel that since it’s Halloween people should be able to ware what they want ... halloween is about having fun and dressing up ... and it’s not like people are dressing up in sexy halloween costumes everyday just one time in that year and that’s halloween ... the only problem I would have is seeing young women with sexy costumes because there young ... besides that sexy halloween costumes are okay with me

If people wouldn’t buy violent games, violent games wouldn’t exist.

If people wouldn’t buy drugs, drug dealers wouldn’t exist.

If people wouldn’t buy porn tapes, porn movies wouldn’t exist.

If pedophiles wouldn’t buy it, child pornography wouldn’t exist.

If people wouldn’t buy sex, whores wouldn’t exist.

If people wouldn’t fight wars, nuclear weapons wouldn’t exist.

etc.

etc.

etc.

The question is, should these things exist for people who will make bad choices? Why should we make it harder to raise kids?

Children, who are prone to make bad choices, will secret a costume away that they know mom and dad wouldn’t approve of and go to another location to put it on.

Why, as a society, are we hell bent on destroying our society while taking the name of the Bill of Rights in vain as we do it?

It’s not the Bill of Rights. It’s the money.

Halloween is a fun time of year when you should be able to wear exactly what you want whether it may be risque or not. Its a time to be something that you are not. But I do think there is an age to where it is and is not appropriate to where these outfits, whether you are old or very young.

So… anything goes huh? Get real people, I am of age and would you appreciate me wearing a skimpy lil sexy thing in front of your child in jr high and high school? No doubt in my mind… the male students would love it, but does that make it right? NO!
Somethings are not appropriate regardless to how much you think it’s your right to do so.

And as soon as the blood returns to my head, I’ll think of the proper response to that!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

I believe that a childcare is based solely on the parents. So its not the fault of a designer who sells skimpy clothing, altough it may be wrong he has every right to sell what ever type of clothing he wants.

I think in order to make a reasoned judgment about that we’d need to see pictures of that.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.
