AP Article About Teenage Unemployment Woes Fails to List Minimum Wage Hikes

Burger King Opens First European WHOPPER Bar

Propaganda:

FRESNO, Calif. — The Obama administration’s economic stimulus program to find jobs for thousands of teenagers this summer couldn’t overcome one of the bleakest job markets in more than 60 years that had desperate adults competing for the same kind of work.
Almost one-quarter of the 297,169 youths in the $1.2 billion jobs program didn’t get jobs, as more adults flooded the labor market seeking similar low-wage positions at hamburger stands and community pools, according to an Associated Press review of government data and reports from states.
“The summer program was basically half-disaster,” said Andrew Sum, director of the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University in Boston. “It was too little, too late and too poorly constructed to have any lasting effect on our youngest workers.”

Over the last two years the Democrats have raised the cost of employing these teens by over 40%. How ignorant do you have to be to write a long article on teenage unemployment without mentioning one of the major factors in teen unemployment.
I don’t doubt that even with the increase in the minimum wage it would have been a challenging job market for teens. I would say less because of competition with adults then a lack of jobs total. If there’s less economic activity then there’s bound to be less jobs.
But that doesn’t mean that raising the cost of employing a teen from 5.15 and hour to over $7/hour doesn’t make a major difference in the employability of those same teens. People that would be unable to produce more than $7 are completely priced out of the job market. Most of us have enough job skills that we weren’t faced with the same enforced obsolescence. However those without the skills won’t be able to get a job to learn these needed skills.
The minimum wage is one of the most heartless things that the Democrats have put on the poor in the country.

Conservative economic dogma always involves screwing the lower economic class, maintaining theory that it is for the poor bastards good.

Another ignorant lie from an economic moron. In reality, fiscal conservatism produces an expanding pie, with more for all, depending on their individual choices, not central planning mandates. In reality, even poor people in the USA are wealthier than middle class people in most other countries.
Your obsolete Marxist “class struggle” dogma is noted.

The virtue of making less money is strongly defended by lower income conservatives. They pick up the shit and wear it proudly on their faces.

In economic 101 theory (which looks at humans at perfect beings), raising the minimum wage is a null effect…

Which means, the wage is raised, then other wages are raised, then prices are raised, all in about a day, or two, at the max. Any benefit to ANYONE is extremely temporary.

In the real world, no one else gets a raise, but the prices still go up ANYWAYS. Meaning, minimum wage people make about the same, and everyone else makes less.

    What a deal, right Woof?

Have you looked out the window lately.
Let me tell you a big secret unemployment is up.There are more people looking for jobs than there are jobs. And most hire the more experienced worker which put school kids at a disadvantage.

Out on Long Island (NYS) teenagers are losing their jobs to illegal immigrants. This was happening long before the recession. I imagine this is happening in other parts of the country. Why hire a punk 16 year old to wash dishes for 8 hours at $8/hour when you can hire a 20-something adult for 16 hours at $4/hour? We’re going to experience quite the culture shift as fewer and fewer kids go to college having bussed tables and plowed driveways. It’s a sad thing we’ve allowed to happen.

Wait till the healthcare bill gets passed, there won’t be any jobs for teens. No business will be able to afford them.

If they would jack those damn whoppers up to $8.00 a piece Burger King could hire more.

The minimum wage is a tax on low wage labor. And as with all taxes, when you tax something you get less of it.

Better more jobs at a lower wage than fewer jobs at a higher wage, to my mind. The most good for the most people, right?

Why not just let capitalism take its course.

And I don’t doubt that illegal immigration contributes, but as you said it was going on before the recession.

Since this recession started there has been a measurable spike in unemployment among low-skill, low-wage workers. This is directly attributable in a major way to hiking the minimum wage.

There are more people looking for jobs than there are jobs

And inflating the price of labor is a big contributing factor to why there are so many people out of work.
