Another Weekend At Bernie’s – Dems Immediately Drag Kennedy Around For Their Health Care Cause
Ted Kennedy wasn’t even cold before Pelosi and Company started dragging his corpse around – in a figurative sense, of course – in their very own bizarre sequal to Weekend At Bernie’s:
Democrats were accused of exploiting the death of Senator Edward Kennedy yesterday after immediately trying to use his name to revive President Obama’s flagging attempt to overhaul the US healthcare system.
Within hours of Mr Kennedy’s death on Wednesday leading Democrats were trying to turn it into a rallying point for healthcare reform — something that he had called the “cause of my life” — and suggested that any legislation should carry his name.
So much for the touching tribute to their dearly departed comrade-in-arms. They saw what they perceived to be political advantage with his death and proceded to drag him around just like to two guys in the movie quoted above did with the dead Bernie, only more obviously, more selfishly, and with less style:
Robert Byrd, the senior Senate Democrat, called for the passage of healthcare legislation that would bear Mr Kennedy’s name, and Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, said: “Ted Kennedy’s dream of quality healthcare for all Americans will be made real this year because of his leadership and his inspiration.”
Damn. I don’t think he’d even been taken from his house before they jumped to attention and began to blow the bugle for health care in the name of good ol’ Ted. They could have at least let the man reach room temperature first, don’t you think?
Yeesh. What a bunch of political vultures.
