Another Take On Barack Obama’s Gun Stance

Yesterday I posted about Barack Obama making public a stance on gun rights which indicates that he believes only rural people should own guns.  Because rural people hunt, and it takes emergency responders longer to get to their houses.

But Classical Values points out that - despite emergency response time being much faster in bigger cities than it is in, say, rural Iowa or North Dakota - crimes rates are actually a great deal higher in urban areas.  Using Obama’s logic (which, really, was probably more of a pander to Iowans who like their guns than logic) it would make more sense for denizens of more urban areas to be armed than people who live in rural areas.

Could one go so far as to say that the crime rates in more urban areas are the result of fewer people exercising their right to bear arms?  Probably not as it’s a much more complicated issue than that, but it’d be a interesting theory to explore.

Comments

It probably is that simple. When they started allowing everyone to carry concealed guns in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the crime rate dropped immediately and significantly.

Muggers and rapists look for people who appear like they won’t fight back. Women are a lot more confident when they have a gun in their purse.
