Another Email From The Plagiarists At Walton & Johnson

Yesterday we noted that popular syndicated talk show hosts Walton and Johnson of the Texas/Louisiana/Mississippi area plagiarized one of our posts on their website.  We followed up yesterday evening by posting a nasty email one of our readers got from Walton & Johnson in response to an inquiry about the swiped post.

Today another reader got a nasty email response from the plagiarizing duo:

We answer 300 emails per day....sometimes you don’t get to cross all of the T’s and dot all of the I’s.... Sorry I answered this on at all. This kind of rudeness deserves no reply. So don’t bother sending anything back. We don’t plagiarize anything. PS Fuck off.

Our reader responded with this:

HAH! Yeah, you don’t plagiarize anything...except entire articles written by others that you pull from blogs and post on your site, adding some text to make it your own!! Ridiculous.

Walton & Johnson did, in fact, plagiarize a Say Anything post.  This is from the original post in question here on Say Anything:

There wouldn’t be the freedom to critisize the way they do things. Threats and intimidation and even murder would be the price you’d pay if you dared speak up.

There would be no compromise. You’d have to follow in rigid lockstep with their dogma or accept a status as a second or third class citizen. If you wouldn’t or couldn’t become a “made man” you’d have to pay the vig, a tax just to live.

Your women would become property. Crime syndicates are notoriously male oriented, often to the point of mysogyny. A woman’s place is to do what she’s told when she’s told to do it. It can pretty rough on her if she doesn’t.

The world wouldn’t put up with any of that if it were the mafia trying to take over, so I’m wondering just how it is that Islam, with its blatant thuggery and downright viciousness, is being allowed to bully its way into the lives of so, so many.

This is from the Walton & Johnson post:

The world wouldn’t put up with any of that if it were the mafia trying to take over, so I’m wondering just how it is that Islam, with its blatant violent crime, mass murder, and downright viciousness, is being allowed to bully its way into the lives of millions around the world who want no part of their cult of death.

Note that while most of the two excerpts are identical, there are a few minor changes near the end.  This indicates that this was no mere “I reproduced the post but forgot to put in a link” error.  Someone copied our post, changed it a tiny bit, and then re-posted it on another site as though it were their original work.

That’s not just a mistake.  That’s theft, pure and simple.  If Walton & Johnson had fixed this error when it was brought to their attention we wouldn’t be making a big deal out of it, but to blow this off as though it doesn’t matter is just plain arrogant and disrespectful.

Walton & Johnson would have you believe that we’re just obscure bloggers that nobody cares about.  While we’ve never claimed to be any sort of media moguls, that doesn’t excuse their thievery.

Update: By the way, check out the theme on the front page of their website now:

“Islam and The Mob?” Gee, I wonder where they got that.

Comments

I’ve never heard of Walton & Johnson. Are they big time? Like Opie and Andy? Ed Schultz?

They’re definitely jerks, in any case.

Furthermore, they are using pilgrim’s Mob theme as the image and title on their website now. I’ve never heard of the guys, seem like a couple of washed up losers to me anyway. They claim they are radio “gawds”, I was randomly linked to their myspace page, with all of 750 some friends. Now I’m not a huge myspace reader, but I do know that that is pathetic for group that claims such a huge following!

D-Hoggs on April 1, 2008 at 02:33 pm

They are taunting you now Rob, and Pilgrim as well.  If they only get a mere 300 e-mails a day, suffice to say that a good portion of them have been about this particular issue.  If they, rather than admit the obvious plagiarism, have made it the focus of their site, what else is to be thought but that they are doing it purposely to taunt you?

Paul on April 1, 2008 at 02:50 pm

I’ve never heard of these guys before now.  Pretty sad that they can’t come up with their own stuff.  I see nothing wrong with using what someone else wrote as long as you give them full credit which these jerks obviously did not due.  It seems they are a couple of egotistical jerks.

Did they also steel that front page from anyone?

Steal I mean, sorry.  I should really preview my comments before submitting it.  Oh well

So find a local news station or all of them and email them this story.  Someone may cover it.

If those guys are douchebags-for-ratings douchebags which most douchebags in their business are, somewhere along the way they’ve pissed off someone with clout or in the media.

Find them and take the debate to their neck of the woods.

I think they had their page like that before we even contacted them about it.

Wow, this is pretty sad. I’d take Hoodlumman’s advice with a dash of what Spocko did.

Check their site and broadcast, get a list of their advertisers, big and small.

A polite email to their sponsors stating ‘Hey I like your brand, but do you know you’re advertising with a station with vulgar plagiarizers?’ with a link to this thread, and these chumps will be wearing paper hats asking ‘You want fries with that?’ in no time.

Some sponsors may want to use douchebags to convey their messages, but nobody wants their brand associated with lazy, thieving douchebags.

Instead of e-mailing their sponsors, you should contact competing radio shows in the area with the same time slot. I’m sure they would pick up on this story.

Or you could just ignore them and they’ll fade back into obscurity.

Where is the outrage against Ed Schaefer and his plagarizing?

A quick Yahoo search provided nothing to back this up. Not that your question would be relevant even if it had.

Idiot.

Hey TP, back up your statement or quit talking crap.  A source maybe?

I got through on their call-in line this morning, and started ranting about Hillary Clinton, dropping the words “Say Anything,” “Rob,” and “Pilgrim” before I jumped tracks and accused them of ripping you guys off. I have an account of my call up on Wizbang, but right now our site’s down.

Hmm… Laurence Simon dabbles in Houston radio, and they have an affiliate there, and if there is anyone who doesn’t suffer assholes gladly, it’s Lair…

It turns out that that IS the station that Lair does his radio thing on Saturdays, and he is NOT PLEASED.

Gosh, I’m such a little troublemaker…

Jay Tea’s site is back up.

I just read his account of his call to Walton and Johnson. Fantastic!

Couldn’t have done better myself. Check out his article.

OK, who’s got the popcorn?

And none of that microwave crap—with the fire that’s been lit under this mess, we need the Jiffy Pop!

They’re bigger than any of us.

They ain’t bigger than all of us.

Or, as Ron White says about the time he was confronted by six bouncers, “I don’t know how many of ‘em it would have taken to whip my ass, but I knew how many they were gonna use.”

Butter… or coconut oil?

This pair of jackasses used to be on the air here in Dallas. They got bounced because their schtick sucked.

As such, it doesn’t surprise me in the least to hear they’re lifting blogposts for their own benefit.

Perhaps as a gesture of goodwill, they could hire Pilgrim as a writer for their show. :o)
