Ann Coulter Defends White Supremacists?

That’s what the Southern Poverty Law Center is alleging:

Coulter spends the better part of three pages defending a group called the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), which The New York Times had described as a “thinly veiled white supremacist organization.” Coulter begs to differ. The CCC, Coulter opines, is “a conservative group” that has unfairly been branded as racist “because some of the directors of the CCC had, decades earlier, been leaders of a segregationist group.” “There is no evidence on its Web page that the modern incarnation of the CCC supports segregation,” she says. “Apart from some aggressive reporting on black-on-white crimes — the very crimes that are aggressively hidden by the establishment media — there is little on the CCC website suggesting” that the group is racist. Indeed, its main failing is “containing members who had belonged to a segregationist group thirty years earlier.”
Coulter could hardly be more wrong. And even if she can’t find time to read beyond a page of the CCC’s website, she really ought to know — after all, the organization where she frequently speaks, the Conservative Political Action Committee, has publicly banned the CCC from its annual gathering because it is racist. Also in the late 1990s, Jim Nicholson, then-chairman of the Republican National Committee, asked GOP members to stay away from the CCC because of its “racist and nationalist views.”
How could conservative Republicans be inspired to say such ugly things? Let us count the ways.
The CCC’s columnists have written that black people are “a retrograde species of humanity,” and that non-white immigration is turning the U.S. population into a “slimy brown mass of glop.” Its website has run photographic comparisons of pop singer Michael Jackson and a chimpanzee. It opposes “forced integration” and decries racial intermarriage. It has lambasted black people as “genetically inferior,” complained about “Jewish power brokers,” called gay people “perverted sodomites,” and even named the late Lester Maddox, the baseball bat-wielding, arch-segregationist former governor of Georgia, “Patriot of the Century.”

I don’t have Coulter’s book, and the SLPC doesn’t deserve to be trusted without independent verification, but Charles Johnson has the book and says the SPLC is accurate in its allegations:

In her new book, does Ann Coulter actually defend a white supremacist hate group, claiming they’ve been unfairly branded as “racist?”
Unfortunately, she really does. I’m not taking the Southern Poverty Law Center’s word for it, either; I have the book and I’ve confirmed that everything they say in this article is accurate.

I’ve never heard of the CCC before, but I went to their website and saw an ad for this t-shirt on the front page:

I think Ann Coulter owes an explanation, at least.

    Hey bat One,
    You are absolutly correct!

The accusation is a complete lie; just another lying smear from the leftie culture of corruption. For the truth, go here:

    More projection from the progressives…

How does this rise to the level of news?

  • http://www.willisms.com/ Zsa Zsa

White males get discriminated against all the time with Affirmative action. Affirmative action is Racist in itself. Why is Black Power OK? AND White Power is Racist? Protecting individuals Civil rights is important. BUT somewhere along the road when Government stepped in, civil rights somehow became civil wrongs against the White Male. IMO.

  • carrick

    Mickey:

Then get it and read it. Never assume for the sake of sensationalism. That’s what the NYT is for.

Not just the NYT. Charles at LGF confirms the SPLC on this one.

    This makes a good reading.

  • Hannitized

Brent, I get what you’re saying. Why is black pride ok, but white pride isn’t?

A better question is why was it. It is not as much of a practiced movement or sentiment as it was through the civil rights movement.

The fact that anyone would ask such a questions shows a deeply profound lack of intelligence. Or, at the very least complete ignorance.

Blacks in this county were brought as sub-human slaves that were hung by their necks for not working for free and being treated as non-humans.

That cultural belief is alive and well in this country. For too long blacks needed a source of pride to make up for the dehumanization and subjugation that the whites in this county have put upon them.

I mean, seriously? Was that question sincere?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/Anna/ Anna

But it’s okay to have “Black Pride”, right? Or “Latino Pride”? Or “Gay Pride”?

    Exactly!

The SPLC has another recent smear where they confuse someone writing *to* a site with someone writing *for* a site. There’s a round-up on them here including an example of them cooking stats. See the other links for much more on them.

In the current case, look up the quotes they provide and put them in context. I’d also suggest not linking to them as this post does; instead at the least put a nofollow tag on the link.

    Only 10%?

  • Brent

    @ 24AheadDotCom,

Agreed. The SPLC’s major working thesis is that poverty is caused by racism. They should be ignored whenever possible.

You have to read this new book on that harpy woman Ann Coulter. Someone is writing a new book on her love life and it turns out she was with one man for 20 years and making people insane by digging dirt. This woman cannot get any dumber than ditzy dumb but this book on her is a really good read if you have not read it. It covers 20 years of her life with a man! It is so pathetic it is like backwardness gone wild!

Alleging. Certain people have been anointed with the power to label and make it stick.

Other groups that actually rape, murder and torture in the USA are given the free pass.

We have been visited by these terrorists here in Columbia, SC. Thankfully, the elected Sheriff has arrested them. It remains to be seen if the above anointed will ride down here and play the complexion card.

sure, id like to hear her logic, but lest we forget……

our president defended a racist black preacher…..

Well there you have it, if the NYT thinks it’s racist I guess we aren’t allowed to question them since they get their talking points from the Dem’s and BHO.

  • Brent

That being said, I don’t think we should be in the habit of defending racists just because their counterparts on the left irritate us.

It just goes on and on and on (etc.) and it is so annoying. There are real racists and bigots in every group, including conservative groups and liberal democrat groups. But, in many respects, the question of racism shouldn’t even be raised… it is used as an ad hominem attack against someone or some group in order to avoid debating the underlying logic and empirical evidence of that person’s or group’s argument.

You are right, though, that Coulter shouldn’t have even raised the subject. Why she lets herself get drug into that is beyond me.

  • Eddie_the_Hated

And just what the hell is wrong with “White culture”?
Rob, we see almost daily posts here on the (pick one): stupid, self-destructive, mysogynistic, self-aggrandizing actions of others in this society. And also daily, conservative posters here on SAB defend our right as law abiding, productive, contributing members of society to notice these things going on.
So now someone actually mouths the words they are proud to be white and you get all nervous about it.

There’s no such thing as a “white” race to be proud of, the same way there isn’t a “black” race to be proud of.

Pick a country. The tone of your skin doesn’t dictate your ethnicity and culture.

sure, id like to hear her logic, but lest we forget……

our president defended a racist black preacher…..

and was happily pictured with farrakahn….

When did we decide that it was prudent to set our ethical bar at the level of Barack Obama?

  • dawneyr

We really aren’t supposed continue in any pride according to the Bible. Remember Lucifer’s tumble and man’s fall were associated with pride.

We used to have a small but vocal group of Aryan Nation members near where I live. They weren’t merely “proud” of their pigmentation, they utterly hated and were threatening to anyone who was other than their stated “preferred” makeup. They also carried it into religion and harassed local Jews. People were threatened and people who supported those who were threatened were also targeted. Although they are no longer here, their legacy of ignorance and hate still wrongfully lingers in perceptions of our area.

Racism is a serious accusation and we ought to read or listen to what Anne Coulter has to say in context before lumping her with blatant hate spewers such as Rev. Wright. Otherwise, we are like those who stoop to use the race card for coercive political purposes. For example, the UN is tossing around a resolution proposal that singles out and officially labels Israel as racist against the “Palestinians” should she continue to make claims to her God-given land. Let’s rise above the blood and the mud.

  • dfwpike

Give it a rest. These people are obsessed with finding racism everywhere and they are sure to find it somewhere.

    I agree 100%. Give it a rest.

  • 2Hotel9

So it is OK for the Democrat Party to have several lifelong racists as leaders of their Party, but Coulter can not express her opinion about race relations in America. All righty then.

SPLC has been working for government directed censorship for 40 years, and using our money to do it. Nothing new here.

As for offensive tshirts, here you go, enjoy. And yes, they sell every flavor of racism. EEOC lives and breaths.

  • http://www.dartemis.net/blog/ sayanything-42

    SteveM,

I disagree with Charles Johnson in his assessment of what Anne Coulter wrote and how the SPLC spins it. Having said that, your allegation is scurrilous.

  • http://www.willisms.com/ Zsa Zsa

Blacks are a protected class so it is legally OK for them to be Racist. Women are a protected class so it is legally OK for them to be Sexist. Affirmative Action allows this type of nonsense. We don’t need any more Protected Classes or Govt Interference in our Country. Get The Government Out Of Our Lives!!!…

  • 2Hotel9

And spark? You glorify a pedophile/necrophiliac and expect anyone to take you seriously? Does your “girl” know that you like to fuck little children and dead bodies?

  • Mickey

I didn’t read the book so I don’t want to jump to conclusions. I appreciate Ann Coulters literary efforts overall. I’ve only read two of her books but I found them to be spot on logical. She also makes a point of listing sources in the footnotes, something few writers do anymore. I’m not defending the CCC I’m just being open to Coulters position until I read the actual transcript.

Ya gotta admit that there isn’t a lot of love for Coulter on this blog in general.

  • Mickey

Women are a protected class so it is legally OK for them to be Sexist.

ZsaZsa, That’s a refreshing statement coming from a woman.

I’ve seen a lot of gender bias from women in corporate management over the last couple years. It reminds me of the reverse gender bias of the past.

  • NoJelly

This shit is for Ann Coulter to say. She can do this because of the 1st Amendment. We can react or not accordingly, that is the spirit of the Right of free speech.

So you disagree with the woman, perhaps vehemently, what do you do? Demand her books be siezed and burned? Have her put away? In that case, you are reacting just as do hypocrite democrats. Both the Nazis and Obama have used the exact same tactics of fear mongering, race-baiting and class separation to achieve a similar end, only the target demographics are different.

So I disagree with Ann Coulter, so what? Is the price of a loaf of bread going up or down because of it? She doesn’t represent me, she doesn’t represent my philosophy, just as Robert Mugabe doesn’t, just as Hugo Chavez doesn’t, just as Barrack Obama doesn’t. But I will tell you so what; Because she’s white, and I’m white, we’re automatically hogtied to each other and I’m to attone for her words or “feel” responsible to the rest of society.

I am PROUD of my heritage. I feel no guilt whatsoever for the plight of downtrodden peoples, because I’ve never trodden any down, supported those who trod any down, or agreed with any who have trod others down. Any of you who are like me, yet DO feel guilt, surprise! You’ve been duped by the same power-mongering machine that is now actively stuffing oversea bank accounts with a trillion of your tax dollars.

Like the hypocrites say, if you don’t like what’s on TV, turn the channel. Coulter is expressing an opinion, not pushing an agenda.

  • http://www.willisms.com/ Zsa Zsa

It is time to pull in on the reins! WHooooa!

  • http://www.willisms.com/ Zsa Zsa

Sparkie, I understand that the Civil Rights of Black People & Women once upon a time were denied. That is really sad! BUT IMO when the government steps in and crowns a certain group a Special Class it cancels out the concept of equality and the Rights of others. When ever the Govt steps in we see property rights etc… vanish! Poof! They’re gone forever! It is really too bad that things were once so bad that the Govt felt the need to intervene. We have way too much Govt intervention IMO. ALL Americans need to examine what Govt programs and more federal Laws mean to Freedom. Perhaps it is the American Indian in me that makes me dislike Big Govt??? Affirmative Action is wrong any way I look at it. AND one last thing. What is wrong with White Pride? We see Black power, Gay Pride etc… al the time and somehow IF a White person is proud of their heritage it is taboo?

  • SteveM

Charles Johnson is a left-wing loon. Think Chris Hitchens without the drinking problem or the good writing ability.

This shit is for Ann Coulter to say. She can do this because of the 1st Amendment. We can react or not accordingly, that is the spirit of the Right of free speech.

That’s the primary issue here, and it’s also under fire from the over educated leftard idiots.

The Boston Globe has a feature article with the opening line:
    Time for a muzzle
The online world of lies and rumor grows ever more vicious. Is it time to rethink free speech?

How much more are we on the right going to take?

I would suggest that this will be/is the new norm. As per usual, the Neo-Marxists will cry “RACISM” at every chance to gain every bit of feigned outrage of the flock.

Annie may be off the reservation on this one, but it’s HER interpretation of this group.

    So???

Keep your eye on the ball, kids. This is just another distraction.

This will be used as another excuse for the return of the “Fairness Doctrine”!

You will never be able to satisfy the “Pre-Offended”…

So now someone actually mouths the words they are proud to be white and you get all nervous about it.
It isn’t white culture that says its okay to behead or set fire to women. It isn’t white culture that promotes the thug hip-hop gangsta lifestyle that has resulted in a 70% illegitimacy rate amongst black and latino births. It isn’t white culture that produces the high unemployment and entitlement mindset on reservations. It’s a common saying amongst these groups when one individual tries to succeed and break free of this victim mindset that they are “acting white”.
So now I’m a racist for noticing that my dark-skinned brethren can’t pull their shit together long enough to make something of themselves in the greatest country that ever was? People have struggled and died trying to get to this country now for years to get a piece of this dream, and the human detritus born here and whose passions are whipped up by the likes of Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson can only disparage and trash that dream. I say hooray for Ann Coulter- for every 1 of her over the top pronouncements, she makes 99 valid arguments.
For anybody getting their underpanties in a bunch over what I just wrote here, you better get over it, and you better grow a pair. Our society is swirling around in the drain right now, and the sooner we wake up to that, the better.
If you do not like the fact that I am white and appreciate this country for what it has to offer- well, screw you. I don’t have any “White guilt”.

    Carlene,

Nobody who actually thinks gives a rip about being labeled a racist by a liberal.

  • Carlene Gauler

Who decides what is racist? Do the LIBS? How about the Conservatives? Maybe a White person? Maybe a Black person? It is in the eye of the beholder. I might think because I am a white female that I have the right to dislike another person. They might be Black, does that mean I am a racist? Who decides who is correct in our society? There are people of all walks of life who I don’t paticularly care for, but does that make me a racist? I don’t think so! Get over it.

  • Bat One

There are white niggers. I’ve seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I’m going to use that word. We just need to work together to make our country a better country, and I’d just as soon quit talking about it so much.

Ann Coulter can do no better. Her fuel is the ugly 10% of our culture. She derives her mandate from latent hate and has merely made it a bit too overt this time.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

    Zsa Zsa
The argument goes like this. Whitey has put into place the physical and conceptual infrastructure on/in which our society functions. Movements like the ‘Black Power’ movement and the feminist movement are okay beecause they cultivate alternaatives to the entrenched social inffrastructure which may, arguably, be unjust in application if not ‘on the face’. These movements provide society with multiple points of view from which to criticize itself, the idea being that the oppressive mode, in this case the Whitey mode, merely resists reform of certain egregious inequalities among the purportedly equal members of our society.

…or so the argument goes. It is derived from Marx’s insight that the proletariat had a unique epistemic vantage point. Through the proletariat’s schizophrenic role as both producer and consumer, it has certain insights and views of reality that are unavailable to the bourgeoisie oppressors who only have the consumer vantagepoint.

So then, this would be the argument for a lopsided look at the legitimacy of the various ‘power’ movements considered in relation to the dominant mode in a given society.

While it may seem reviling, the interesting thing is that oppressed Christians in China can claim certain insights and oppressed capitalists in Stalinist Russia might claim certain epistemic insights. The dominant mode, through ritual and practice, can automatize certain ‘givens’ which do nothing but entrench their way of doing things, seemingly under everyone’s noses. The contrast provided by these minority movements is a certain sort of
