An Apparently Liberal Definition Of Diversity

Oh yeah, Spike Lee's new movie about Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath is going to be really diverse:

WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE: A REQUIEM IN FOUR ACTS is an epic portrait of New Orleans in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The film recounts the heartbreaking personal stories of those who lived to tell about the disaster and provides a detailed chronology of events - from the tragic failure of the levees, to the massive evacuation efforts, to the lack of action that followed. A chronicle of profound loss, the film also focuses on the triumphant spirit of New Orleaneans as the city rises from the depths of despair with the help of its rich cultural legacy.

Lee and his team selected nearly 100 people from diverse backgrounds, representing a wide range of opinions, to be featured in the film, including Louisiana WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE: A REQUIEM IN FOUR ACTS -- 2 Governor Kathleen Blanco, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Harry Belafonte, Wynton Marsalis, CNN´s Soledad O´Brien, Terence Blanchard, Rev. Al Sharpton, Wendell Pierce, Sean Penn, Kanye West, local media and other New Orleans residents.

By "wide range of opinions" they must mean "blames Bush/Republicans to varying degrees."

I’m just wondering, who’ll have the roll of KKKarl Rove blowing up the levees?

Er, excuse me, Mr. Lee….may I call you Spike? No? Okay. But just what the HELL does Harry Belafonte have to do with New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina? Or for that matter, Al Sharpton? I live right here in Katrina Central and rode out the storm right effing here and the only time I saw either of them come around was when they could safely stir the racial pot from the comfort of their entourages. And their opinion matters why?

Just thought I’d ask, Spike ol’ buddy. Oh, sorry, Mr. Lee. I’ll let you go now. I know you’re qa busy man. So much racial pandering to do, so little time.

Oh..forgot to add something…..Sean Penn? Sean Freakin’ Penn? Who in New Orleans give a fat rat’s ass about what Sean Penn’s opinion of what happened is? I’d rather listen to Emo Phillps pontificate on high fashion than listen to anything ANYONE from Hollywood has to say about ANYTHING! Note to Sean Penn: Dear Mr. Penn, SHUT UP AND ACT. Be a good little overpaid circus clown and entertain me. That’s what you’re paid to do. Good boy.

Gee… between comments made here, and some of the remarks over at Wizbang as well, where I believe the City of New Orleans is also represented, one just might get the idea that the Crescent City isn’t really an all black enclave, and that residents there were actually the victims of a hurricane and not of the GOP-led federal government.

Damn inconvenient thing, the truth!

Pilgrim,

Did you perhaps mean THIS Sean Penn:

EFFORTS by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak.

Mr Penn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina’s flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch.

The actor, known for his political activism, was seen wearing what appeared to be a white flak jacket and frantically bailing water out of the sinking vessel with a red plastic cup.

When the boat’s motor failed to start, those aboard were forced to use paddles to propel themselves down the flooded New Orleans street.

Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: “Whatever I can do to help.

With the boat loaded with members of Penn’s entourage, including a personal photographer, one bystander taunted the actor: “How are you going to get any people in that thing?”

Spike Lee doesn’t like white people.

What does this thread’s title—“An Apparently Liberal Definition of Diversity”—have to do with the story, which reports:

Lee and his team selected nearly 100 people from diverse backgrounds

a statement which is undeniably true, as the list of people he interviewed for the film includes actors, politicians, journalists, academics, and citizens of New Orleans.

Nice selective quoting, dumbass.  Here’s the part the title refers to:

representing a wide range of opinions

Clearly, the range of opinions presented isn’t so wide.

Huh. It seems like a better title might have been “An Apparently Liberal Definition of Wide Range of Opinions.” Since, you know…that’s what you take objection to.

I think the title makes sense.  The article stated that it was a diverse bunch appearing in the film in terms of their opinions.  Clearly it is not.

But split hairs if you must you pedantic twit you.
