The short answer is to enforce today’s law. How do we know it won’t work without ever trying it?

I think now we’ve got to hold the politicians feet to the fire to actually follow the law.
This is the feeling after a revolution. Yeah! Woohoo! We won! It’s like we’re all dressed up and nowhere to go.
You know I love you guys, but what on God’s green earth makes you think we’re going to deport 12 million people? Hold who’s feet to the fire? There’s no plan, guys. NOBODY has a plan.
The issue is front and center now.
Trust me, it is sooo in the rear view mirror. It’s sitting on the heap next to social security reform.

Liar:
1) Close the border. That’s the law today.
2. Deport illegals that have run-ins with the law or with other government employees. Currently ICE doesn’t show up when local law enforcement “only” catches one illegal alien.
2a. Hold local sanctuary city politicians responsible for the consequences of their policies. They’ll be attracting more criminals with their policies, something that not going to be more popular.
3. Make it possible for employers to NOT hire illegal aliens. Then go after the employers that do.
4. Investigate and prosecute identity theft. The government knows of millions of mis-used Social Security numbers. That’s a crime today.
Make it easier to legally immigrate to this country. But ban people who have been caught illegally here from legally immigrating here (for at least a dozen years).
Do this and the problem will start to disappear. Sure it will take a few years but it will happen.

Better the poor reality of the status quo than the even poorer reality of amnesty for millions of criminals
You can’t undo a flood. It may not be fair philosophically, but we’re in a mess that began years ago. Now’s a time for a solution.
Making illegal immigrants go back to mexico, check in, apply, pay a fine, and come back as a legal non citizens does not fit my description of amnesty. Usually, when most people get in trouble, they get fines and that’s about it. I have never thought of that as being amnesty.
and no border enforcement to stop the millions more who will be attracted to illegal immigration by that.
Now, we draw a new line in the sand, learn why it didn’t work before, and put in provisions to fix it so this never happens again.

SWEET!
Now that the bill is dead, we can get back to the current amnesty policy we’ve been following for the past few decades.
