America’s Ugly Obsession With Celebrity
Who is Brett Cohen? He’s a non-celebrity who decided to see if he could get Americans on the streets of New York to treat him like a celebrity simply by taking on the trappings of celebrity (security guards, entourage, etc., etc.).
It worked almost embarrassingly well, with none-the-wiser pedestrians flocking to get autographs from and pictures with someone they’re convinced is famous, they’re just not sure what for.
Remember when you had to actually accomplish something before becoming famous? Remember when you had to build something great? Or invent something useful? Or be talented in some meaningful way?
These days celebrities can be famous just for being famous. No talent or accomplishments needed.Tags: celebrity
