America’s Biggest Problem: The Giant Federal Wealth Transfer Machine
During the debate yesterday between our House candidates here in North Dakota (video here), Republican Kevin Cramer said that one of the problems with our tax code is that it is too lopsided. It needs to be flattened, he said.
His opponent, Democrat Pam Gulleson, rejected that premise saying that flattening the tax code would mean raising taxes for other Americans. Maybe, but judging by the percentage of income tax returns that show either a zero or negative tax liability, that needs to happen (via Professor Mark Perry):

What we’re seeing is a dramatic increase in the amount of wealth redistributed by the government growing even as the poll of people taxed to pay for all that spending shrinks.
And according to Democrats, this is what patriotism looks like.
