Amazon Selectively Changes Comment Policies

Amazon.com has changed its comment policies for the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth book, Unfit for Command (via Betsy's Page).

Important note from Amazon.com: We've decided to suspend our normal customer review policies and rules for this title. For example, we usually prohibit ad hominem attacks. That policy in particular seems to be incompatible with presidential election year politics. Therefore, short of obscenities, reviews on this book are now a free-for-all. We take no responsibility for the following discussion. Aren't presidential election years great? Have fun!

Right, since this book targets a liberal candidate for the Presidency they're going to allow any sort of rhetoric and/or smear statements readers want to post. That's all well and good, but why has Amazon changed its policy for this book while leaving the policy in place for the myriad of books by liberal authors which have attacked the President?

The answer is that the proprietors of Amazon.com are liberal and, when it comes to politics, aren't interested in reasoned debate.
