Amateur Hour Continues: Obama Meets The Queen, Gives Her An iPod

Well, that’s marginally better than the DVD’s he gave British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, I guess.

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama met today with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace in London.
Details are still emerging from the private meeting, which is expected to last 20-30 minutes and take place over tea, but a few tidbits have begun to come out. According to Time, the president gave the queen an iPod as a gift; it contained footage of her visit to the United States in 2007.

A reader emails: “It’s one thing that Obama doesn’t get it. It’s quite another that none of his handlers seem to get it either.” That’s a good point, though personally outside of the laugh factor I don’t really care what Obama gives other world leaders as gifts. But after eight years of Bush being mocked as some sort of out-of-touch rube who didn’t fit in with the intellectual and political elite of the international community, I would like to see the hypocrites on the left stick it to Barry a bit. But they won’t. Because he’s their messiah, and they’re incapable of criticizing anyone on their “side.”
Anyway, rumor is Obama’s going to get French President Nic Sarkozy a Wal-Mart gift card.
Update: Apparently, the Queen already has an iPod according to the Telegraph.

THIS HAS TO BE AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE>>>>>>>I HOPE

  • SigFan

Probably loaded with a bunch of gangsta hip-hop/rap too.

  • robert108

    Unbelievable!!

  • Hannitized

Anyway, rumor is Obama's going to get French President Nic Sarkozy a Wal-Mart gift card.

What is wrong with Wal-Mart anyway?

  • Bat One

Prince Phillip look like he's waiting for Obama to announce that dinner is served.

  • Rezistik

So he is bad because he is hip?

What would you have gifted the women? The blood of your first born? What exactly is expected during a meeting with a queen of a nation that is simply a friend of ours…

  • SigFan

Prince Phillip look like he's waiting for Obama to announce that dinner is served.

Philip is a bit of a racist – he's probably wondering why one of the servants is running around the house on the loose, or he's expecting Obama to serve dinner.

Just saw on Drudge that this is real – and that the Queen did already have an iPod.

    UNBELIEVABLE

How did this happen that we ended up with such a clueless dope for a President?

What happened to the late great Country of the USA?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

So he is bad because he is hip?

Rezistik, do you really consider it "hip" to give the queen something as common as an Ipod?

It'd be one thing to give an Ipod to a teenager, if they didn't have one. It's another thing to give it to the queen who's worth a berjillion dollars and therefore already has one.

As we saw with Gordon Brown's gifts to Obama, it's appropriate to give something of historical significance to a world leader. Something that has value ASIDE from its intrinsic worth.

  • Bat One

Of course she already had an i-pod. Who doesn't? At one time she was reported to be the richest woman in the world. The "gift" is a thoughtless insult. Obama, and his handlers, are little more than crass hacks. It's the Chicago way!

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Res, I'll give you an hint. It would be rather pointless to give me an Ipod, although it wouldn't go to waste as I'd give it to my kids or someone else.

A gift between two world leaders should be above "regifting" don't you think.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

We have a ghetto President in office. What do you expect?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/realitybasedbob/ realitybasedbob

Rumors on the interwebs say that Queenie gave Obama a picture of herself in a silver frame.

    Well…aaaahhh…that's nice too…

  • kbiel

Give the guy a break. He was going to give her something classier, but Best Buy didn't have King Ralph on a region 2 DVD.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

I've been Googling trying to find out if this is an April's Fools joke. I can't find any evidence of that anywhere.

  • http://forums.kikizo.com/ Eddie_the_Hated

Love how everybody missed the point of the post.

She's not our Queen. We don't owe her any respect beyond a military ally and a trade partner. As far as I'm concerned, he could buy her a subscription to the Washington Post.

It's all ceremonial. This would be okay whether Obama OR bush did it.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Um no. That's not how you do it. For one thing a lot of the Queens subjects like her and will take this as a lack of respect shown to the queen.

  • FlybyKnight

Anyway, rumor is Obama's going to get French President Nic Sarkozy a Wal-Mart gift card.

That would be funnier if I wasn't so sure it was possible…

  • Mark

Give the guy a break. It's hard to find anything "Made in America" anymore!

  • Rezistik

    Thank you…the gift is unimportant…

Hell…didn't we fight some king or queen way back when so we didn't have to give them gifts and honor them?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Rez: I know you can't answer this. If Obama wasn't going there to show the queen respect then why did he go? If he was going to show her some respect why did he bring a crappy gift that she would be indifferent of?

What might be a nice gift for a young person is a crappy gift for the queen.

  • Rezistik

He also gave her a songbook signed by a musician…is that enough thoughtfulness put into a gift yet? Love how you fail to mention that in your post…

  • Hawk

You guys are morons. The gift was the video footage of her on the Ipod. He also gave her a songbook signed by Richard Rogers.

    It's a nice gift.

  • robert108

It just shows how low-class Obama is, and he "represents" our country! Another debacle of Obama's incompetence.

Aren't you lefties always squealing about how we should be better than everyone else, when it comes to interrogating terrorists? Hypocritically, you excuse Obama being worse than everybody else when it comes to foreign relations. Why the double standard?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

The gift was the video footage of her on the Ipod.

Somehow I don't think the queen is as narcissistic as Obama so that she doesn't think she has to walk around with movies of herself all the time.

  • Hawk

Somehow I don't think the queen is as narcissistic as Obama so that she doesn't think she has to walk around with movies of herself all the time.

She gave him a picture of herself, as she does for all leaders.

Hypocritically, you excuse Obama being worse than everybody else when it comes to foreign relations. Why the double standard?

What is wrong with the signed songbook from Richard Rogers?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

He also gave her a songbook signed by Richard Rogers.

That might be a good gift. Is she a Rogers and Hammerstein fan? Is she an autograph hound?

Probably should have kept the Ipod he shoplifted from KMart and just given her the book?

  • Mickey

Rumors on the interwebs say that Queenie gave Obama a picture of herself in a silver frame.

This sounds more like something Obama would do.

Either way, the iPod and signed songbook is kind of lame but then again what would we expect.

    That's our Barry.

  • Hawk

Either way, the iPod and signed songbook is kind of lame but then again what would we expect.

Why is the songbook lame? What would you give?

    It was a nice gift.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

    Why is the songbook lame?

If she is a fan of Rogers and Hammerstein it would be a nice gift IMO.

If Obama gave it to her because he thought she should like it R & H it was lame.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

    The Ipod is still lame.

  • http://www.midnightmakeout.com/ Roman

I think she has one lol. Was it cold covered? Shes the queen of England dont you think she should get something a bit more royal?

  • kbiel

Perhaps he included a tasteful collection of Sex Pistols songs as well.

  • Hawk

If she is a fan of Rogers and Hammerstein it would be a nice gift IMO.

Apparently the Queen is a fan of Rogers and Hamerstein. When courting each other the Queen and the Prince Consort used to hum the song "People will say we're in love" as a code to each other when others were around.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

    Awww. That so sweet.

Not only that it shows that Hawk is obsessed with the Royals.

  • http://suitepotato.blogspot.com/ sayanything-4808

A little asking around beforehand might have gotten someone of the mind to gift her with a designer hat. She's got something of a fondness for them. Not too out there, more 1950 ladies cotillion sort of styling. A bow would also be nice during the presentation.

For those who think we owe them nothing, that does not mean we should show no respect as through the respect to her we show respect to her people and that covers England, Scotland, Ireland and lots of other nations under their alliance.

There comes a time to get on with the future and bury the past, when you can see things have changed. Now is not 1776. Consider that this statement comes from the descendant of men who died fighting in the Revolution and War of 1812 before you decide on a glib reply.

  • Hawk

So a hat is a nicer gift than a signed songbook by Richard Rogers?

If Obama would have done that you would criticize him for not giving a thoughtful gift, but instead just going to a store.

    Not even close.

  • http://reaganiterepublicanresistance.blogspot.com/ Reaganite Republican

Obama has no more social grace than you'd find at da Bears game- and surrounded by sycophants, who's going to point-out his ineptitude?

And is there some anti-British sentiment coming from Obama due to Kenya's history as a British Colony? Some grudge there?

I couldn't believe the cancelled photo-op with Brown and the tacky DVD-boxed set gift of "ET" and other crap… Don't you think he'd have watched that by now if he was so inclined? And now an i-pod for the Queen? -nice touch, lol

These anti-British stunts should tell you whether Obama, in his heart, considers himself more Kenyan-African, or more American. A REAL American wouldn't have sent-back the bust of Churchill that was in the White House and insult our closest ally.

Maybe he should check his weird hangups and do his job in a professional manner instead- this stuff is getting pretty embarassing.

    Welcome to the jungle

From what I've read of the situation, the Ipod was something she requested (her other ipods don't play video), and the songbook was meaningful as she is a showtunes fan. So for all of those who are so quick to dismiss this gift as 'amateur hour' without knowing the context, I'd suggest you reconsider.
