Alan Colmes Accuses Ann Coulter Of Using Anti-Semitic Language

After arguing with her for several minutes about whether or not it’s politically correct to be a Christian.

I was actually talking to my wife about this today.  It seems like Christians get in trouble a lot for declaring their religion superior to others, but isn’t that pretty much what belonging to a religion means?  Not to put too fine a point on it, but don’t all practitioners from Catholics to Moromons to Jews pretty much believe that the only people who are “saved” or in good standing in their God’s eyes are the people who worship as they do?

I was once at a social gathering where a Rabbi asked us all to pray, and I spoke up and said that I wasn’t going to because I wasn’t Jewish.  He replied “Hey, nobody’s perfect.” It was a joke, and we all laughed.

I really don’t see what Coulter said that was really any different, in spirit, from the joke that Rabbi cracked.

To say that your religion is somehow superior; that you have to be perfected in order to be of the right religion; that somehow those who do not believe what you believe are somehow lessor than you - that’s the implication and that’s classic anti-semitism.

That’s a big stretch of logic, even for Alan Colmes.

He’s desperately reaching.

It stands to reason that ALL of the religious and non-religious find their particular beliefs to be superior. Why wouldn’t they?

I, personally, am an agnostic. Using Alan Colmes idiotic logic, that makes me an “anti-semite”.

Not only that, but anti-Buddhist, anti-Christian, anti-Muslim, etc.  Basically what is argument boils down to is that we hate everyone that is not us.

I was once at a social gathering where a Rabbi asked us all to pray, and I spoke up and said that I wasn’t going to because I wasn’t Jewish.  He replied “Hey, nobody’s perfect.” It was a joke, and we all laughed.

I wonder if he’d been watching Independence Day, or if that’s a standard response?

I don’t know, was that a line in the movie?  Maybe he was quoting the movie and it went over my head.

As for Colmes, everyone thinks their personal set of beliefs is superior.  I think supply-side economics are superior to centrally-controlled economies.

I don’t know what that makes me, except “right” of course.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

Jews having been

perfected

beneath the hand of Christians,
(by fire, by sword and rack),
through the ages, are touchy about her language.

Defend her speech, then take a look who stands with you.

It seems to me that we shouldn’t accuse Ann Coulter of wanting to whip Jews or put them in a rack until she, you know, actually says she wants those things.

But that’s just me, and I’ve kinda got a thing for “truth” and stuff.

Truth is exclusive.

Coulter versus Colmes isn’t much of a match.  All Colmes has going for him is his ability to interrupt… a kind of rhetorical quick release.  And even at that, Coulter’s got him beat with (...how does that saying go?) half her brain tied behind her back, just to make it fair.

I’ll give the points and take the girl.

The problem with Ann’s “perfected” comment was that it was directed at Americans.  She was talking about what she would like America to look like.  The implication was Christian Americans make America ideal, while non-Christians hinder Ann’s ideal America.

What Ann meant by “perfected” was that Jews would become Christian.  The word is theological, describing the believers union with Jesus Christ.

The silly part is the anti-semitism accusation.  Just because someone changes religions doesn’t mean they change ethnicity.  A Jew who accepts Christ is still a jew.  Ann said nothing anti-semitic, period.

Give her time

we shouldn’t accuse Ann Coulter of wanting to whip Jews or put them in a rack

she’s up for killing Judges & blowing up newspapers.

Ann Coulter:

We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity

Talks like a duck.

It’s baffling.

Has the entire world turned into a bunch of crying babies?

That was then. This is now. It isn’t happening to you and no one here today did it.

Actually, she was simply expressing Christian beliefs; there was no coercion in her view.

We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity

This was a parody of what radical Islam wants to do to us; I don’t expect a leftie to have the ability to get the humor, though.  You guys just don’t get it.

Bottom line, when it comes to an absolute like religion, everyone can’t be right.

The Jews, Muslims and Christians can’t all be right.  If you say the earth is flat and I say it’s round, we can’t both be right.  Both teams can’t win the football game.

For Ann Coulter to say that Jews need to be “perfected” by believing in Christ, she is saying nothing different than what is preached from thousands of pulpits every Sunday.

Alan C. should not be offended by that.

I don’t know about you, but to hear Alan C. quote from the New Testament was kind of nauseating for me.

Alan Colmes is an idiot who berides anything principled or conservative.  It’s insulting how he consistently interrupts his guests talking points like a spoiled adolescent who must have it his way. Don’t know how Hannity can stand him.

Is Alan Colmes Jewish?

Zsa Zsa on October 31, 2007 at 04:51 am

I don’t know, was that a line in the movie?

Yeah, it was used by Jeff Goldblum’s Jewish father when the former SecDef decided to join the prayer circle… towards the end, when they’re trying to upload the virus to the mothership.

Is it a bad thing that I remembered all that?

Hard to believe that you have anyone from the left actually sticking up for jews, of course, we know it’s all for show and to be contrary.

The left loves multiculturalism just as long as it doesn’t involve any Christian or American conmponent.

That’s because sucking up to alleged minorities is what they do best (except lying, of course).

Short answer is “no.” Not all religions/religious sects hold to that absolutist position.  Not even all Christian groups do.

It’s kind of like, here’e a set of instructions to get from point A to point.  It may be better (from my perspective) but that doesn’t stop you from getting to point B via another, completely different, route.

And frankly I don’t worry very much what that twit Alan Colmes thinks about anything.

I’ll take your word for it, as my experience with organized religion and how they feel about other religions is pretty limited.
