Al Sharpton Owes 1.5 Million In Back Taxes

The man just keeps living down to his reputation. From the Associated Press:

The Rev. Al Sharpton has emerged over the past decade as perhaps the nation’s most prominent civil rights leader, a status that was demonstrated again this week when he led protests against police brutality that briefly shut down six of Manhattan’s major bridges and tunnels.

But he still carries baggage from his early days as a fire-breathing agitator: Government records obtained by The Associated Press indicate that Sharpton and his business entities owe nearly $1.5 million in overdue taxes and associated penalties.

Now the U.S. attorney is investigating his nonprofit group, a probe that an undeterred Sharpton brushes off as the kind of annoyance that civil rights figures have come to expect from the government.

Of course, from his perspective “they” are just trying to stop his on going crusade:

“Whatever retaliation they do on me, we never stop,” he told the AP. “I think that that is why they try to intimidate us.”

It can’t be possible that he simply owes the money, can it? It’s a conspiracy. The ever mysterious “they” just want to keep him down. I like his second line of reasoning: It’s someone else’s fault.

As for Sharpton’s personal tax debt, King said Sharpton has started paying it off but contends that faulty record-keeping by the National Action Network led the government to overestimate his tax liability.

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

This is just blatant racism.

Why should bro Al have to pay taxes like the rest of us?

I want to know how he is going to pay the 1.5 in back taxes. Also, should he be in jail?

That reverend business must pay pretty well to owe that much in taxes.

Yeah, so much for that whole thing in the Bible about “rendering under unto Ceaser what is Ceaser’s”, right, Rev?

Why do Democrats always say they want to “tax the rich”, when rich Democrats don’t pay their taxes?

Least he is no Wright.  He can fight for Civil Rights to balance an equilibrium, but he’s got to be positive that the case is justified and not just some rascist card:

he was accused of helping create a hoax in which the 15-year-old girl claimed she had been kidnapped and raped by a gang of whites that included a police officer and a prosecutor. A grand jury concluded that Brawley made the story up.

Sharpton’s role as a “racial healer” in the Freddie’s Fashion Mart incident shouldn’t be forgotten either.

Dirl:  Rev. Sharpton is a professional victim-advocate. It’s how he makes his living.

Ergo, no victims = no income.

A Grand Jury concluded that Brawley made the story up.

An inconvenient fact which did not deter the good Rev. from making mega-bucks on the lecture circuit and in the media recycling the Twana Brawley myth ad nauseum.

Really, Sharpton and Wright are cut from the same race baiting cloth.

Being liberal is never having to admit you’re wrong

docdave on May 10, 2008 at 08:15 am

True, Pparets, seeing as Al Sharpton is attempting to defend a drug-dealer and accusing three experienced officers of brutality.  Not sure how you can be brutal, if you are attemting to defend yourself.

“Unlike the Diallo tragedy, the officers involved in the Queens shooting were not all white. They were also not inexperienced. The first bullet came from an officer with five years on the job, and the detective who fired the 31 rounds had 12. But it is hard to explain their actions as anything but panic. “

Yes, I considered the source.

The wierd thing about Sharpton is that politically he’s probably to the right of Obama.
