Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth

We’ve all heard a lot about Al Gore’s new movie, An Inconvenient Truth. It has been the subject of much debate and much media attention.
So with all this hubub, where should you go if you want to see this new ode to the evils of pollution? Well, your pickings are pretty slim. The show is only showing in four theaters nation wide.
Four.
What can we divine from that? Maybe that America doesn’t really care about Al Gore or his opinions about global warming?
I think that’d be pretty accurate.

It’s not the fact that human activity causes CO2, it’s the chicken little: “The sky is falling, the glaciers are melting, we’re all going to die!” reaction to it.

Actually, that does more to prove Rob’s point. All of those opening dates appeared to be in June. Today if I’m not mistaken is June second. With the exception of early shows today, those theaters haven’t shown the movie yet.

Your right about the tom cruze thing but the original post here was using the non popular argument against the film and I was stating that yes people are seeing it.

As Rush is fond of saying, the more the lefties fail, the more they are praised. Alg Ore ought receive a whole lot of praise for this one.

I sure hope nobody sees this movie, because driving to the theater is one of the main sources of atmospheric greenhouse gases.

And sorry, but Rob’s right. A few dozen are opening up tonight, but the fact remains that theaters are being relatively “patient” about showing the movie. Translated for those of you from Rio Linda, that means that the theater owners don’t think they’re going to make much money off it.

And yes, the “DaVinci Code” and “X-Men” are awful movies. That doesn’t mean Gore’s is good.

I think this is a bit more than four:

Regarding the “oil industry subcontracted mouthpiece,” let’s not forget that the other side of the equation is “government subcontracted mouthpiece.” Two can play the game of the genetic fallacy, sign.

Let’s try some actual evidence instead, OK? Let’s never forget that the “evidence” for global warming consistently has the effect predating the cause, and that the theorists have yet to produce a computer model that even comes close to matching actual data.

Even worse, let’s never forget that the “nonpolitical” IPCC (Intergovernmental panel on climate change, UN working group) consistently presents the very worst case calculations (and those which match historical data the worst) as a “rationale” for drastic intervention in the economy.

One doesn’t need to work for Exxon to know that something stinks with the “standard” Algore view on global warming.

I thought conservatives understood business. I used your link to “The Numbers” and scrolled down the list. Over last weekend “An Inconvenient Truth” averaged over $20,000 per day compared to $5,000+ for “X-Men” and $2,000+ for “Da Vinci Code”. Hmm, that means that “Gore’s” movie was 4 times more profitable for the theater owners than the two blockbusters – not to mention that Gore sold 4 times more overpriced popcorn for those BUSINESSES (ok, I’ll admit it – the theater in Hollywood screening it sells freshly made caramel corn, gourmet sausages and lattes as well as popcorn).

Oh, and how much did “Inconvenient Truth” cost compared to “Poseidon”?

    HDW-

His point was that if you want to go see it, it is only showing in 4 theaters nationwide. So your SOL. That is untrue. It may not be showing everywhere TODAY, but it is opening in theaters around the country soon.

As Rush is known for saying:

And don’t forget, Sherrod Brown is black. There’s a racial component here, too. And now, the newspaper that I’m reading all this from is The New York Times, and they, of course, don’t mention that.

not that they fight back -that they think we are so stupid and gullible as to buy their “Carbon dioxide, they call it pollution; we call it life”
line. Remind me of the Rioxin and the Tobacco industry.. Do not take this as an endorsement of Al Gore nor that I agree with his main ‘campaign issue’

I wonder which one is worst, Gore’s Inconvinient Truth or the oil’s industry subcontracted mouth peace that has set out to rebuke it.

Al Gore unleashes a massive campain to turn the oil companies into evil entities and you think it’s suprising that they fight back? What are you smoking?

  • realitybasedbob

So as not to appear as a hijacker…

the inconvenient truth is that Sherrod Brown is white.

Seems like the real component is right up there next to his polynoidal cyst.

We would like to thank El Rushbo for pulling his head out every day so we call all get a good look at it.

Carbon dioxide is plant food. Nothing “stupid and gullible” about that one sign.

  • robert108

Human-caused global warming hypothesis: Just more fear-based commie propaganda against the very successful free enterprise system. The reality: most pollution is generated by third world, socialist countries, since they have no profit with which to clean up their mess.

Mutant meglomaniacs, unfathomable conspiracies and people innundated in a sea of confusion…but enough about An Inconvenient Truth!

It sounds like the kind of movie to watch when it comes on TV…if you’re in a full body cast and can’t reach the remote!

I just saw it in Cleveland, it was 2pm on saturday and there were 50 – 100 people in there. When I saw the movie the omen the day after it had opened that theater was more packed than the Gore one but not by too much.

Also keeping in mind they were playing the Gore movie on two screens, overlapping start times. They had probably 8 showings that day.

If people argue with his film then I hope they at least try to do it without using bush talking points. I will say this… global warming or not, if huge hurricanes keep slamming this year and hit orleans again or atlanta or some other southern city very hard people will start to wonder.

I dont see what the big problem is on energy convervation, doesnt it help take money away from the middle east and make us more self sufficient?

I will say this I was surprised to see as many people as I did when I went into the theater. I bet that when the movie opened on friday night or when it was later on saturday the place was really packed probably 100 – 200 people.

    U.S. Box Office: $490,860

at 8 bucks a ticket, over 61,000 people have seen it, not bad for 4 theaters ;) lol

He will use the money and ticket sales to get the movie pushed out to more screens.

Despite being shown in only 77 theatres in the country, An Inconvenient Truth was number 9 at the box office this weekend. Every movie above it was shown at over 1000 theatres. It drew over $17,000 on average, well above every other movie in the country.

An Inconvenient Truth had another great weekend at the box office taking in $1.5M in just 122 theaters for a healthy $12,333 per screen average. Look for the film to expand into 400 theaters across the country this weekend.
