Al Gore: Of Course I Profit From Green Energy Policies

Al Gore gets questioned on being both an “activist and an executive” and whether or not his financial ties to the green companies that profit from the government policies he advocates for represents a conflict of interest.
His answer? Well of course he profits from said policies (it’s being reported that if certain laws pass Gore would be the world’s first carbon credit billionaire), but that’s totally not a conflict of interest or anything.

Really, I don’t have a problem with Gore profiting from his “green” investments as long as he’s transparent about it. But I do think that Gore’s profiting illustrates a lot of what’s wrong with the so-called “green industry.” It’s not capitalism. These companies are not profiting because they’re providing products or services to people who buy them voluntarily at a price that turns a profit. These companies are profiting because they’ve got powerful political connections and are heavily subsidized by the government.
Gore may be profiting, but he’s not a capitalist. He’s a rent-seeker.

    Hey Rob the idiot..

These companies are not profiting because they’re providing products or services to people who buy them voluntarily at a price that turns a profit. These companies are profiting because they’ve got powerful political connections and are heavily subsidized by the government.

How do you think the internet got it’s start??? And how did that impact capitalism, you fool?

    Rob:

These companies are profiting because they’ve got powerful political connections and are heavily subsidized by the government

That’s not entirely true. There are plenty of private ventures in so-called green industries that get by without subsidies (if you aren’t the favored green industries, you have to deal with government disincentives in fact).

Gore is making money by selling lies; global warming is a lie, as is the manufactured crisis Gore is profiting from. His fearmongering has made him rich; instead of producing anything, he is being a parastie on the fears he generates with his lies.
Halliburton gave something for the money thay made, and Cheney divested his interest in them before the war. Nice Soros talking points, though.
Green energy is a very expensive lie. Windmills are medieval technology, and are incapable of producing energy efficiently and in sufficient quantity.
Without massive taxpayer subsidies, no green energy companies would exist, because they suck money out of the economy.
    Gore is a criminal.

It is his right as a visionary and an Oscar winner and Eco-Hypocrite to get rich from the big hoax. I love to hear about carbon footprints and saving energy. The rules and laws only apply to everybody but him and the eco-crytes. We must cut back, so he can fly around in private jets and ride in Limo’sfrom appearance to appearance. We must all sacrifice for Al Gore. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with private jets and limos. He can afford them. I just refuse to be lecture to by a hypocrite. He should lead by example before he ‘preaches’ to the rest of us. Kind of like the Catholic church telling us about the sin and evils of child molestation. When you clean up your own house then we will talk. Until then — Shut the F*CK up.

Al “cheeseburger” Gore is looking more like Frankenstein’s monster every day.

“What do you expect Gore to do — invest in coal? ”

That would actually be productive, and would benefit others besides himself.

“There are plenty of private ventures in so-called green industries that get by without subsidies…”

How about a list of them?

You know the market for “green energy” is a creation of the govt, right?
The real question is whether or not it would be anything more than a niche market(areas not served by utility companies) without the huge govt expenditures to try to create such a market for political purposes.

And so the next bubble begins, the energy bubble. What happens when these companies go under because they aren’t profitable and the government cannot no longer afford to subsidize them. Isn’t that whole government subsidy thing what got us into this financial mess in the first place?

I heard this morning that a company his venture capitalist firm invested $75 million with stands to receive more than $500 million in federal grants.

What do you expect Gore to do — invest in coal? He’s putting his money where his mouth is and yes, he’s making a lot of money out of it. As he is no longer an elected official, he doesn’t have conflict of interest issues to deal with (or shouldn’t). This is not Halliburton and Al Gore is not Dick Cheney.

I guess profits are OK when a radical leftist gets them.

  • sayanything-1714

    Rob,

Don’t you have any response to the fact that the internet was created with government funding and how that the development of the internet impacted capitalism?

  • http://fu.com/ robert108

It’s not “capitalism”, moron, it’s the free enterprise system, and the profits made from the adaptation of ARPANET are an example of an unexpected benefit from forced taxpayer contributions, like a silk purse from a sow’s ear. Only the free enterprise system could have turned defense spending(a legitimate function of govt) into massive economic activity. The govt didn’t do that. We paid for the research and the basic technology, then turned it into something productive.
That’s what the free enterprise system does.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

If it were free enterprise buying Gore’s product would be optional. It won’t be if he gets his way. We’ll be forced to buy his products by government.

I wonder how much money he made with the Y2K scam he peddled back in the nineties.
