Al Gore Caught In An Embarrassing Gaffe About Polar Ice

Whoops:

Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.
In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”
However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.
“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”
Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.

Several years ago? Gore was citing data indicating that the north pole would be ice free in 5 – 7 years ago, and says he got that information “several years ago.”
Shouldn’t the fact that the north pole has plenty of ice – more now than in recent years and certainly more than decades ago – have clued Gore in to the idea that there might be something wrong with that data?

Well poopy! That didn’t work. Here is the link.http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/

  • sayanything-2

OK, now it did. Am I the only one having trouble putting things into comment threads, or is this a general problem?

    Whipping boy,

You don’t have to defend the indefensible.

  • sayanything-2

It is pretty sad when a 3rd rate comedian is more intelligent than the 1000s of “scientists” who keep screeching this lie.

And you know, Algore is right! The Arctic looses a Texas sized amount of ice. Every year. Then it “refreezes”. I know!! Amazing, and a concept that college educated morons and “scientists” can’t quite wrap there pointy heads around.

  • Poetry71

DON’T CONFUSE ME ….. with the facts!

  • HG

Exactly. I wondered if Gore actually believes what he is saying about AGW, now I know he’ll say whatever he has to or thinks he has to, in order to get the attention he wants. He’s a liar.

  • sayanything-2

AGW is a lie, you repeat that lie, that makes you a f*cking liar.

    Alas poor goreick

Oh yeah, that John Daly guy was a real hoot. If I wanted to make a straw-man case against the global warming contrarians (not skeptics, true skeptics would be equally skeptical of petroleum funded studies on climatology), I would pick John Daly because he is so easy to debunk. Being honest however, I realize that there are better arguments against AGW. They are still incorrect, but they are certainly more well-founded than anything John Daly every had to offer.

  • sayanything-287

He believes it! He has deluded himself into thinking it is true, because he lusts after global praise and the attention he failed to get if he had been elected POTUS. I think Obama, Gore and most of them, not the late Ted “I Kill my Dates” Kennedy; but most of them are sincere, they believe they are on the side of right and that all the evidence against them is a conservative plot!

It is -24 actual temp right now. We were due to have possible -45–50 windchill last night/early this am. I don’t know what it ended up being, but Al should come on buy and bring his suit and sunscreen. The water temp is great. Oh, wait, the water is frozen and there are ice houses on it. Maybe he could convince someone to let him slip in and take a swim.

Poor sanni, its religion is proven a lie, and all it can do is cry.

  • sayanything-9974

this speaks volumes about the mental midgets that believe the lies that this idiot pronouces to the world. They mock the deniers – but how stupid must you be to be a believer in the hoax? Room temperature IQ must be close.

There is evidence dating back to 1817 that the sea ice at the North Pole melts during the summer months.

    http://www.john-daly.com/polar/arctic.htm

You really can’t find this stuff if you just Google Artic Ice Melt or some such. I found this by remembering a photo from my childhood of a nuclear submarine surfacing at the North Pole. Turns out there is plenty of hard evidence that this melting predates coal fired power plants, internal cumbustion engines and the rest of the evil devices used by man for commerce and to keep from freezing his ass off. Of course, the AGW bunch will attack this source–Daly–as a “denier”, but they will have little to say about his facts.

Several years ago? Gore was citing data indicating that the north pole would be ice free in 5 – 7 years ago, and says he got that information “several years ago.”

I bet that Al Gore never thought about subtracting the time that had passed since he first heard the remark, an stuff. That would be like totally stupid for him make a subtraction.

    Derrr….

  • sayanything-287

In the most recent National Geographic on a story about South Georgia Island, the writer bemoaned the shrinking glaciers and said it was the result of global warming, then is a short sentence he admitted that actually all over the Antarctic the ice was actually increasing a little bit overall in recent years!

  • sayanything-8606

    Gore is a gaffe. Cheeseburger?

Why is nothing coming up in comments?

Today’s headline from the London Times:

“Copenhagen Stalls Decision on Catastrophic Climate Change for Six Years”
The key decision on preventing catastrophic climate change will be delayed for up to six years if the Copenhagen summit delivers a compromise deal which ignores advice from the UN’s science body.

World leaders will not agree on the emissions cuts recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and are likely instead to commit to reviewing them in 2015 or 2016.

The funny part of this revelation is that it falls on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

    Now that’s Karma.

  • sayanything-287

    I hope that is right!

  • sayanything-7406

Poor Gore. The guy can’t seem to convince anybody that ManBearPig is real.

  • sayanything-7743

“Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.”

“In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh.”

I find it interesting that Mr. Gore mentions the “latest research” with “fresh figures” but then goes on to state his number maybe from a 5-7 year old conversation; maybe I am wrong, but to me, at least, I would not consider information from a 5-7 year old conversation to be the “latest” or “fresh”.

  • sayanything-6955

This isn’t a gaffe, it is a bold faced “LIE”! And all of science is under the microscope even more now.
