Air America Could Be In Big Trouble

Liberal radio network Air America could be in big, big trouble over missing funds meant for impoverished kids and the elderly.

NY Daily News - A Bronx congressman yesterday praised the smooth takeover of dozens of programs serving thousands of youngsters and seniors across the borough after the city yanked funding from two sponsoring agencies that have come under a cloud.

The nonprofit Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club and its affiliate Pathways for Youth found their city contracts, running into the millions of dollars, abruptly ended last month by the city Department of Investigation. . . .

In its initial announcement, the DOI said it was probing allegations that program officials "approved significant inappropriate transactions and falsified documents that were submitted to various city agencies."

According to published reports, the allegations involve Charles Rosen, the founder of Gloria Wise who has stepped down as executive director, investing city contract funds in Air America Radio, the liberal talk radio network.

Evan Cohen, Air America's former chairman, had served as Gloria Wise's director of development.

Seems pretty fish to me.

More:

Bronx News - The Bronx News has learned, through informed sources, that the diversion of hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club in Co-op City to the liberal Air America Radio is at the center of the city’s probe of corruption at the local club.
The money, which was reportedly paid to Air America as a loan, was supposed to be paid back with interest, two unidentified informed sources told the News. One source added that Air America officials, led by an official of the Gloria Wise Club, agreed to help the local club by publicizing its activities.

To date, no indictments have been handed down in the New York City Department of Investigation’s ongoing probe of the Gloria Wise Club’s reported transfer of funds to Air America...

I can't find any comment on this from anyone at Air America yet.

The fact that the money was allegedly a loan that has not been paid back would seem to indicate that the radio station is having serious money problems.

I wonder if the loan took place back around the time Air America was having problems paying for its air time. If so it would appear as though Air America only managed to stay on the air by taking money from the poor and underprivileged. Something the demagogues who regularly broadcast on Air America's shows routinely accuse the Republicans of.

Keep an eye on Michelle Malkin's post on this subject for more.

I will admit that I hope it’s not true, because I like their morning show---but corporate chicanery doesn’t surprise me any more.

One question, tho’---why are y’all full of excuses and pitiful denials when Dubya’s campaign contributors steal billions, but get your panties in a twist over this?

Don,

Next you’ll be hearing the howl over the Liberal MSM ignoring this story, while I doubt the Coingate scandal in Ohio will be blogged on here. You’ll read the continued conspiracy woven to indict Air America, but no concern given to the $9 Billion missing in Iraq.

TCF’s advice to you, is to decline comment until the investigation has been completed.

TCF says, “You’ll read the continued conspiracy woven to indict Air America”

I have news for you, there doesn’t need to be a conspiracy to sound the death knell for Air America.  It’s been on for 2 years, is continually infused with outside $$ to keep it going, has to buy stations (and its way onto stations) in order to have an outlet, and is outdrawn by Calypso music in the markets it does reach.  Its market share, along with its programming, is joke looking for a punchline.

I blame Karl Rove for Air America’s poor ratings.

MuleLoad:

Not that I expect facts to make a dent in your thinking, but Air America is doing quite well in the ratings, thank you very much.

As I noted above, there seems to be some serious financial chicanery involving Air America’s FORMER corporate officer. “Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club” is being shut down by the city, and might turn out to be shell game from the get go.

I’m a fan of Marc Maron (the morning guy) and Janeane Garofalo (my future ex-wife), so I’m hoping that the present management of the network isn’t involved in financial improprieties---but in the anything goes deregulation era of corporate whores like Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush, anything is possible.

According to Arbitron, Air America is tanking. Neal Boortz is doing better than the entire lineup on Air America. Glen Beck is kicking their collective ass. Foxsports radio programing is slamming them into the boards. Need I go on. Please get a clue, or at least the ability to use google.

Don Myers posts the link http://www.warprofiteers.com/article.php?id=12476,
then posts the comment “none are so blind as those who can’t see”....

... except for those who read only shallow-minded propaganda, like “warprofiteers.com” and no doubt Progressive Magazine, a purveyor of the truth if there ever was one.

2Hotel9,

Responding to anything Don Myers posts is like trying to catch the wind in a bucket.  He’ll simply tack in another direction and post something else that is as addle-pated as what you just called him on.  I don’t respond to what he says--ever, because it’s an exercise in futility.  But then, that’s just me.

LTM, it is like plotting Harrassment&Interdiction fire, you throw the rounds out there and hope they hit something of value. And considering the size of Don and TCF’s egos I don’t know how we could miss.

Poor Tom Delay has been vehemently attacked slandered by air America for supposedly violating a vague pointless campaign finance law in Texas.  Though when it comes to their own accounting problems the liberal ‘corporate’ network has nothing to say.  There is a word for this is hypocrisy.  The reason why the modern progressive movement has very little credibility is because it possesses no consistency.

[...] Remember that Air America scandal I wrote about a week or so ago? It had come to light then that when Air America was having some fairly heavy financial problems it got an infusion of funds via an “investment” from a youth group that in turn got its money from the city. The problem with the “investment” was that a man named Evan Cohen was involved with both Air America and the youth group, making the transfer of money look suspiciously like the misappropriation of public funds.
