After Whining About Deficits, Democrats Launch Bragging Campaign About New Spending
Last week Rep. Earl Pomeroy, as well as Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad, were falling all over themselves to praise Obama’s recently proposed ( and phony, in my humble opinion) deficit reduction efforts. Rep. Pomeroy, in fact, called it the “tough medicine we need.”
But now flash forward to this week. The President has introduced a new budget that increases spending and creates a $1.2 trillion deficit, and now Pomeroy, Conrad and Dorgan are falling all over themselves to praise all the pork spending North Dakota got.
And the lapdog North Dakota media is dutifully re-printing every press release about the spending.
$10.5 million for a “nut lab” in Grand Forks. $123 million in pork for wind power. $353 million for Indian programs. $206 million for farm services. $3 million for Head Start.
And on and on.
So what’s with the double standard? These three liberals claim to care about the deficit. Yet, the minute a new budget emerges that adds $1.2 trillion to the national debt they line up to brag about all the money they inserted into it for North Dakota.
If they honestly care about the deficits, then how can they be in favor of this spending? How can they brag about this spending if they really care about deficits?
And the answer is, they don’t really care about the deficits.
