After Brief Spike In Early November, Congressional Approval Ratings Plummet

They’re getting down near that all-time record low (just set by the Democrat-controlled Congress in August) in the Gallup poll again.

That’s a nine-point drop over the last few weeks after it looked like they were regaining some ground. So what happened in early November to make approval ratings spike? I went back through some news archives, and it seems like the only thing Congress was really in the news about was…Mukasey, and the fact that he was probably going to be approved by Congress.
So what has happened since to make the poll results plummet? Well…

Liberal rhetoric about the war aside, I don’t think Americans are happy with Democrats for trying to defund the war. Especially with news out of Iraq being fairly positive these days. I know Democrats are quick to point to Bush’s low approval numbers, and low approval numbers for the war itself, but with their Congress polling at record lows they’re not exactly speaking from a position of authority on the subject either.

When Democrats were elected, they were given a clear mandate to end the war and put an end to the Constitutional violations by Bush and Cheney.

They could have easily done both by simply not funding the war and starting impeachment proceedings against the two criminals.

By not ending the war and, instead, approving additional funding for the it and doing nothing in terms of Bush and Cheney, they have exposed themselves as frauds who are afraid to do anything because they don't want to be called names.

These are a bunch of spineless cowards who are all bark and no bite. The rhetoric by Reid about no funding for this year is recognized as just more of the same do nothing whining.

    ews48:
    1) As the Democrats have only a small ruling margin in the majority of both houses of Congress, while technically they can claim a mandate, in reality they don't have sufficient support among the electorate that would allow them to cut off funding for the war, effectively pulling out the rug from under our troops and they know it, thus the timidity about any direct action.
    2) The changes on the ground in Iraq since the surge have been so significant and clear to enough of the American people, they would be killed in the next election if they created a need for an immedfiate withdrawal.
    3) Other than cutting off funding, the Congress is Constitutionally prevented from any other actions to force our retreat in the field, Vietnam Part-II, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
    4) The Democrats know that there is no clear, documentary evidence that the President of Vice President ever committed anything close to being a high crime or misdemeanor, they would lose an impeachment trial and appearing highly partisan and vindictive, they would risk losing power once again for ovberreaching.

So, while these actions might provide you with some pleasure, the Democrats are not likely to commit political suicide solely so you can have these hppy feelings.

I believe that many Democrats promised in their campaigns that they wouldn't try to defund the war. Of course, we now know they lied, something they are very good at.

There are a number of things you do not talk about here. There are many things that have gone viral on the net and not in mainstream news.

With overwhelming bipartisan support, Rep. Jane Harman's "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act" passed the House 404-6 late last month and now rests in Sen. Joe Lieberman's Homeland Security Committee. Swift Senate passage appears certain.

Not since the "Patriot Act" of 2001 has any bill so threatened our constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Now they want more laws passed like this. These laws are very vague laws that could almost mean anything and I myself believe them to be unconstitutional. New hate/thought crimes that are so vague it could mean any one supporter here or even you Rob for saying bad things about the government on your site.

The dislike and challenge to the patriotact2 is another thing that is on people minds. It takes a while for some things to sink in, I cannot see a scientific pinpoint on any poll like this.

Your graft says little about the support for the war before this, as it was the main cause of the low rating in congress for years, IMO. (Go ahead and bash, lol)

The new higher education bill that is going to require Universities to buy accounts for students to Napster and such or lose federal student loan aid is another.

Then there is Blackwater (private contractors paid for by the U.S.) investigations and now in front of a grand jury that has been another black eye.

Then the impeachment attempt of Cheney issue, no matter what side you are on in that situation, it gave the congress a black eye.
I could post things that happened in late October early November all day other than the war that could bring down the opinions of our Legislature.
In fact, I would say everything they have done in the last month would cause the opinion of them to go down. You yourself have pointed out that the Democrats are just fudging dates on the Iraq war pullout, people can see that.

Damn right people disapprove of Congress; until the troops are out of Iraq, it'll stay that way.

The paulettes continue to spew stupidity.

ews continues to spew outdated talkingpoints.

Typical of both sets of anti-human,anti-American morons.
