AFL-CIO Insults American Crystal Sugar Workers
12:28pm
So much for union solidarity.
AFL-CIO union boss Richard Trumka was in Minneapolis recently and pledged his organization’s support for the locked out American Crystal workers who continue to reject contracts offered by management. Trumka also announced that the AFL-CIO was giving the workers some money to help with their on-going lockout.
The amount? $25,000, or $19 per locked out worker. An amount so low as to be insulting.
Chris Berg has the news:
I don’t support the goals of the AFL-CIO. I think the American Crystal workers are being foolish for rejecting the contract offered by ACS management. But the AFL-CIO is an organization that has already spent more than $2.5 million on political contributions in the 2012 cycle, with most of it going to Democrats, and millions more on lobbying and other political activities.
But $25,000 is all the organization can afford to support their locked out union workers?
One almost gets the idea that Big Labor is less about the workers than it is enriching the union bosses and their political cronies.
