Academia Is Just Another Bought And Paid For Liberal Constituency

It would come as no surprise to anyone that political contributions from the nation’s university academics would go, overwhelmingly, to Democrats. Case in point, the Montana Senate race where contributions from academics working at that state’s universities have lavished money on the Democrat candidate but haven’t contributed one thin dime to the Republican.

These academics are, of course, free to contribute their political money however they wish. But the lopsided reality of contributions from academia doesn’t speak very highly of the sort of diversity of thought and ideology that is supposed to exist on college campuses.

There’s also a relationship between this sort of giving and big government. We talk often of Democrats growing government to create more public workers who pay dues to unions who, in turn, help elected more Democrats. The same thing seems to be happening on the college campuses, where academics and professors owe their jobs to lavish government spending and vote to keep that spending rolling.

All the more reason to uncouple politics from our campuses by privatizing higher education.
