ABC Takes North Dakota’s Side Over National Geographic

Plus, myself and 600,000+ other North Dakotans were named ABC’s “persons of the week.”
I’m waiting for the ABC World News Tonight video to appear online, but the show’s segment took the side of North Dakota over National Geographic, although anchorman Charlie Gibson, tounge in cheek I think, countered Gov. Hoeven’s claim that North Dakota is a “warm” state.
The segment ended well for North Dakotans–the residents of the Peace Garden State were named this week’s “Persons of the Week” by Gibson

I’ll have the video as soon as it’s available.
Update: ABC must be doing a North Dakota twofer this week (the only send a news crew up here once in a blue moon, so may as well make the best of it) covering the oil boom in Stanley as well as the National Geographic article:

Stanley was covered in the New York Times back on New Year’s Day as well.
Update: Here’s the “People of the Week” report:

Not a bad report. I think a lot of North Dakotans are tired of their state getting kicked around.

Nice to hear that ABC came to fly-over-country. The only thing I don’t want people to realize we have a good thing going here. I would hate to have to compete with other for the Green Head Mallard.

Let’s be honest. We don’t want these weak kneed, faint of heart, ‘show me’ type tourists. North Dakota needs strong, brave people willing to dig earth with their bare fists, and shoulders of granite. Keep out, you novelty seeking light weights!

Gotta love our photo op Governor, but someone needs to get him some acting lessons, way too much “physical noise” in this segment which can mean two things, you are having a problem with the truth, or you are reaching for your lines. Now that this photo op is over, maybe Hoeven can think about tackling some of the real issues that we presently have. Put in a little real work for us lowly citizens. Well, I gotta go have my daily glass of milk now.

There are probably at least 40 other states you could replace ND with and the article would still be fitting. Washington has a few large developing cities but, by and large we have hundreds of towns fading away just like ND.
Oh.. and as far as weather, we have our -20′s in the winter and 110′s in the summer.
Seems to me, if you want to make a place your home … you’ll look at the good and you’ll find it endless.
