A Word On Our Spammer

I’m sure most of you have by now noticed that SA has been under attack from some low life who thinks it’s hilarious to post explicit pornographic images and porn links in the comments.  Often times this moron has chosen to post under the name of many of the regulars here, which has lead to some confusion.

The best way to avoid that confusion is for everyone who comments here regularly to register by clicking on the link up on the header and upload an avatar.  This idiot can’t log into our accounts, so if he’s posting under someone else’s handle but there is no avatar and no comment count - which displays for logged-in users - we all know it’s the idiot and not the regular.

As for stopping this guy, we’re doing our best.  Between Likwidshoe, Whistler and I there’s pretty much someone on the site just about 24 hours a day.  We’re able to catch most of it.  That being said, given the sheer volume of comments posted here at all times of the day there may be some we miss.  If you see some nasty comments from this idiot send an email to all of these email addresses so that we can find it and delete it:

rob@sayanythingblog.com
likwidshoe@sayanythingblog.com
whistler@sayanythingblog.com

Be sure to include the permalink for the comment when you email.

Thanks for your patience with this.  I know how disgusting the crap this guy’s posting is.

Comments

Thanks, Rob.  This guy reminds me of some of the irregular tactics used by our enemies in Afghanistan, japan and Vietnam.

Well, I finally decided to register.  The last thing I want is for loser-boy to use my name.

Once again I call for some bright young mind in the IT industry to develop an electronic claymore for use on morons like this.

You are not alone, at BetaNews last week I read an article on a week long DOS attack going on an international scale. It appears that someone’s kids have too much time on their hands.

Bummer, I was hoping all my past comments would show up on the comment meter.  Oh well.  Now I have a reason to post more often.

I was just going to ask the same thing.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

[W]hat you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

You guys did a great job on reacting and getting this crap deleted. Kudos to all of you!

Don’t suppose there’s IP sleuthery you could undertake to find the miscreant?

Anyway, I registered, so thanks, Creepie Creep Creepersten!

The problem is that whoever is doing it is doing so through proxy IP’s.  Meaning that the IP that shows up in my system doesn’t reflect the actual ISP the person is using.

It’s the problem with allowing open comments.  Registering and/or requiring a captcha (the word you have to enter before your comment will post if you’re not registered) protects you from automated spam bots, but when you’re dealing with some idiot commenter on a computer in his mom’s basement who is smart enough to switch up his IP there’s not a whole lot you can do.

I’m not going to be closing down open comments, so vigilance is the only answer.  If it keeps up I may enlist a couple of other trusted readers/contributors to act as comment moderators.

I forgot my password and am always logged on at home, but at work I usually just post as ‘Sparkie’. I hope, at this point, that the content would be a giveaway no matter what name I use.

Just seeing what my new avatar looks like.  Thanks to hubby 2H9 for making it for me.  As I told him, he can have the cuddly little baby kitty and I’ll take the big old mean dog (may she rest in peace).

Wifey on February 11, 2007 at 08:20 pm

Com’on, Slug, what gives

I thought a photo with me and my 1927 Thompson would be appropriate.  I suppose I could find some cute little chibi to use instead.

Sluggo on February 11, 2007 at 08:53 pm

Naw! I like the Thompson, though I prefer a GI issue M1A1, running .45ACP a 10 inch barrel is quite enough. I want the lowdown on that bluesuede suit!

Hi Wifey:  big old mean dog looks pretty friendly.  Somehow 2h9 doesn’t seem like a kitty type guy.

Sparkie, I think that’s spelled Censor.

I wonder what web sites this dude surfs to find appalling crap like this? I can picture him, beady eyes, sweaty hands, perusing web sites that feed his grandfather sex fantasies.

Interesting that he would choose to disrupt rather than debate on this site, isn’t it? Shows a rather limited capability, don’t you think?

Note to the spammer - if you think you’re offending and/or horrifying me, you can get over yourself.  I just thought, “how nice these old gay guys are getting some action” and that was that.  I can’t speak for everybody, of course, but I don’t think there are too many wilting flowers over here.  You might as well look for another site that might share your interests more and spend some time there.  Just saying.

Hi Wifey:  big old mean dog looks pretty friendly.

Hey back atcha, Carol.  Gunther weighed about 80 pounds and was pretty impressive.  She wasn’t overly friendly to people she didn’t know - there are other pictures that are more frightening but they weren’t on my computer already and weren’t so easily accessable.  So I went with happy, relaxed Gunther instead.

Somehow 2h9 doesn’t seem like a kitty type guy.

Hee!  You might be surprised…

Wifey on February 12, 2007 at 09:17 am

Ok, I logged in.

I’m bummed, I missed out on the porn

Mickey on February 12, 2007 at 09:29 am

Hang around, it might leave some more droppings.

Ma, I love cats! Dogs are OK, but cats are the most effective land-based predators on the planet. And they are furry-purry and cuddly. The pic here is The Little Princess, Jelical-Killing Machine all 7odd lbs of her. She is currently our top hunter, and regularly catchs birds and rodents. I have a pic of her with a very large Bluejay, can’t get it small enough to use as a gravatar, it is just a blur.
