A Picture Worth A Thousand Words: GOP Health Care Bill Vs. Democrat Health Care Bill

From the Club for Growth:

Neal Boortz has a quick summary of what this bill entails:

What does the Republican alternative include? Glad you asked. Some of the highlights are:

  * Increasing incentives for people to use health savings accounts
  * Capping non-economic awards in medical malpractices cases
  * Incentives for states to drive down premium costs
  * Allowing health insurance to be sold across state lines

What does the Republican plan NOT include?

  * No employer mandate
  * No individual health insurance mandate
  * It doesn’t require insurers to cover pre-existing conditions
  * Probably some abortion stuff that I could care less about

It sounds good, except for the parts about incentives.  I’m all for Health Savings Accounts, but the only “incentive” from the government to get them should be for the government to stop doing the things (like subsidizing employer-based health care, for instance) that distort the market for them.

And what incentives for the states are we talking about?  Again, the problem with health care is too much government distorting the health care markets.  The solution is less government.  Not more federal/state mucking about, as well-intentioned as it may be.
