    The Monkees were underappreciated geniuses. Despite their origins as the "Pre-Fab Four," pulled together by a studio for a TV series aimed at kids, they were really skilled musicians (both as performers and as songwriters), and they were pretty funny too.

    Of course you mean Bobby Hart and Tommy Boyce skilled songwriters, Neil Diamond was there too. Nesmith did write a Ronstadt hit though.
