A Consensus Is Emerging, The Surge Is Working

It’s becoming an undeniable fact.

A consensus is forming among impartial observers that the strategy of the troop surge orchestrated by the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, is starting to pay off, with growing evidence of successes on the ground.

Tactical advances against al-Qaida may eventually result in better security in the cauldron of central Iraq.

Of course, this doesn’t mean we’re on the road to victory.  We’re making military progress, but before victory is at hand we need political progress as well.  The clock is ticking on our time in Iraq.  Even with the surge going well, we only have so much time left.  The Iraq government has got to step up on the plate.

Though there’s no need to be too impatient just yet. The whole point of the surge was to give the Iraqi government some breathing room.  They’re just getting that now, so hopefully they can pull things together so we can start pulling our troops out soon.

Comments

That is going to play out well in the media well with all the lefties wanting to surrender to AQI, Al Qaeda and the terrorists in Iraq.

I am sure there will be a shift in the stories and eventually the MSM will get all the lefties on message and trying to retreat again. Moveon.org and George Soros will never allow this to go on too long. What is Harry Reid going to do?

OMG! Not “consensus” again. When the hell are people going to learn, how you “feel” about something is not really relevant “to” that something.

Our military has begged to have the chains loosed, now they are. The job is progressing. We have clearly shown the people of Iraq that we are willing to die to protect them. Now they must step up. And they are. Since the fall of Saddam Iraqis have been lining up to join the Army and Police. And repeatedly those recruitment lines are carbombed. And yet, they continue to fill those lines.

THAT is the dirty little fact the Democrat Party has shat upon.

This is just another one of Rob’s lies to upset the poor, downtrodden Democrats. It cannot be true, we have already lost in Iraq, Prime Minister Pelosi and Lord HaHa Reid told me so!

Seriously, if the surge works, if as it appears real progress is being made in Iraq and that is reported by Petraeus in mid-September, will we see mass suicides in D.C. on the Left? They have literally bet the House and the Senate on an American loss in Iraq as their means to power. So, I assure you they have already prepared an MSM offensive spinning any good news into bad news and hoping they can sell it to the people of this country.

While many Americans don’t really favor the war in Iraq (if you believe the polls), most people I believe don’t want to leave Iraq as the losers, they’d like to leave as victors.

That is exactly why the left I believe has to be carefull (not that I care) because if the Surge is shown as working and the MSM is saying it is working. Then I believe that Americans are going to want to go out and win the war. I also believe the people might turn against the Leftards like Pelosi and Ha, ha Reid.

We, as a culture, both political and social, have been teetering on the edge of several tipping points for awhile. What stumbles out the otherside is quite in question at this point.

2Hotel9, Some of us do possess the ability of rational emotions.  Sadly though, there are many more people out there that view the war solely through pure emotion and never do comprehend the over all picture.
Occasionally, peoples way ward emotions go in the right direction but not very often.

What is your point? When was freedom ever free? When was liberty not baptized in the blood of its children? What of the 680,000+ deaths in the Civil War or the 198,000+ deaths in WW-II? The more valuable anything is in this life, the more it costs and the more precious it is to possess.

What about the American Flag on my son’s or your a near relative or your’s coffin, what does that mean but he poured out his last full measure of devotion in a great cause: Safety for America, Liberty for Iraq and standing up to murderers and saying what you are doing is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

While each son and daughter is terribly precious to their parents and family, the flag on the coffin of a soldier says something wonderfully ennobling about how these fine young people were willing to risk their lives for their family and their country. Your negative words, your dislike of Bush or your anger at the Iraq War cannot ever change that simple fact! If every American and most Iraqi’s said America was wrong, I will honor every soldier that served, those dead, terribly injured or whatever is their fate and I feel sorry for you that you cannot understand.

Seriously, could things get any worse for the Democrats?

They are running at the lowest approval rating is histoire.  They try to steal a vote in the House and then purge the electronic records so there is no “paper trail” of their duplicity.  And now this.

We actually have the nerve to be winning in Iraq.

Harry reid has got to be pi**ing himself right now.  All they can do is goin on the Sunday talk shows and try to convince us we really aren’t winning and it really is hopeless.

Too bad their own people write that op-ed piece that lit the fuse.

Honesty sucks!

I must be getting old and stupid to boot, I have absolutely no idea what the two posts here are talking about, not a clue. No, I am not playing games, these statements are beyond my comprehension or I am missing something.

The point is, how you “feel’ about something is not relevant to that something. Feelings are irrelevant. The actual facts are all that is relevant.

They’re my feelings and they can be relevant if I want them to be. tongue laugh

Besides, considering most people do view the war through emotions ... it looks like they’re vastly relevant whether you or I like it or not.

Control is not always a good thing.

The British celebrated their successes in Ireland as 8 million Irish people died as a result of their control.. Then there was Mao, Stalin, and Hitler.
