77% Of Americans Say It’s Ok For Employers To Require English

The other day I posted about the Democrats wanting to make it discriminatory, and thus legally actionable, for employers to require that their employees speak English-only on the job. Today comes news that such a requirement isn’t exactly kosher with a strong majority of Americans.

The view that employers should be allowed to require English-only speaking while on the job is held by 84% of Republicans, 70% of Democrats and 77% of voters not affiliated with either major party.
Eighty-two percent (82%) of White voters believe employers should be allowed to require English on the job. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of African-Americans agree. However, other Americans, primarily Hispanic, are evenly divided. Just 45% believe English-only requirements should be allowed while 47% disagree . . . .
A separate survey found that 77% of Americans believe that immigrants moving to the United States should “adopt America’s culture, language, and heritage.” Just 13% say immigrants should “try to maintain the culture, language, and heritage of their own country.”

Sounds to me like most Americans feel that people should come here and be, you know, Americans. Instead of some hyphenated nationality that speaks a different language, disrespects our laws and doesn’t honor our customs.

Since when were employers responsible for teaching employees how to communicate? Since when were employers required to hire people incapable of doing the job they are being hired to do? Since when did only 77% of Americans think it is the government’s job to run private businesses?

Isn’t this a “safety” issue? Free lunchers love to move their agenda under the guise of “safety.”
    Their silence is telling.

Sorry, scratch that “only”. Splitting time between typing and cooking.

If you can’t communicate with someone, it costs you money.

In giving someone a job, I am not about to agree to hire a translator or pay anyone to be a translator.

When a language is spoken in a work place that everyone can’t understand, it creates suspicion and animosity in a work force. As an employer, I am not agreeing to have to spend resources to deal with this.

    It’s just not good business.

    Word, Vato.

adopt America’s culture, language, and heritage

    Whatever that means.

    Quite right.

There’s a reason why we have a common currency in America, and it’s the same reason why we should have a common language.
