50 Year Old American Woman Kidnapped In Afghanistan Is Killed By The Taliban

She was there to help people. Not that that sort of thing matters to sub-human animals like that:

A Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary graduate apparently has been killed after being kidnapped by gunmen in Afghanistan a month ago, a humanitarian aid foundation reported Tuesday.
Cyd Mizell, 50, an aid worker who taught Afghan women income-producing skills such as sewing, and driver Muhammad Hadi, another aid worker, were abducted Jan. 26 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
They served with the nonprofit Asian Rural Life Development Foundation.

    Great points Nieman.

Not so sure, Mick–this woman went in there knowing something like this might happen. To good people like Ms. Mizel, there is no time when missionaries don’t belong in any part of the world. That’s why she deserves our respect–and the thugs that did this deserve what they will get–eventually.

Maybe they’re just upset because we won’t talk to them.
    /sarcasm
Maybe Obama can persuade them to stop their murdering ways.

Talley. Thank you. For those few that took a different view, would you say the same thing to the “freedom riders” of the 1960s? Would you have said,

Missionaries don’t belong in that part of the world at this time in history.

Replace Missionaries with civil rights workers and you get my point. Care to extrapolate?

If Jesus didn’t come to the earth because of the danger to Him (knowing that He was going to be crucified) where would that leave us? It should be noted that Jesus lived a perfect life and He was stilled crucified. Fortunately for the rest of us He is risen and alive, however I don’t think we can judge the value or feasibility of the work by mere “safety.” Is He not in control in Afghanistan just as He is here? I think it begs reflection on whether we are “Christians” or whether we are “Followers of Christ.” The former is merely cultural (like many of us in the South) and “goatish” while the latter is a group that is led by the Spirit and not as concerned with physical safety as much as the execution of His will (these being the sheep.) At any rate, going to a country to help doesn’t seem to be a great reason for validating the cause of murder. I look forward to any further comments in this string.

Where are you Daniboi? Trying to stand up without farting tard?

    Tuna,

I don’t disrespect the woman for being a missionary.

But I would not advocate throwing bloody chum in the water and swimming with sharks either.

The middle east is not a sane place to be selling religion outside of the accepted practice.

First of all, religion – Christianity or Islam – has nothing to do with this. Mizell may be a Christian, but she wasn’t a missionary. ARLDF is a secular, non profit aid organization. Mizell was there to help poor people get back on their feet. I don’t know about all of you, but just because there might be some “danger” involved doesn’t mean I’m not going to help someone. If that’s a crime, then I worry about the state of our world…

Was she proselytizing? From all I can find the answer is no.

“Mizell, 50, a native of Eureka, Calif., moved overseas to serve the people of Afghanistan. Since 2005 she had lived in Kandahar, where she taught English to high school students and helped women learn income-producing skills such as sewing and embroidery. She also assisted in other ARLDF-related efforts in the area, which include food-for-work projects, irrigation, rehabilitation, health care and restoration projects.” This from ARLDF webpage.

She was executed for the crime of educating women and girls. Not for proselytizing.

Women in Muslim societies are hammered down by assholes just like dannyboy.

I would rephrase that to “More of Allah’s work….” They may claim to worship the same God as the Christians, but I’ve got more than a few doubts about that.

Missionaries need to shut the fuck up, mind their own business, and stop trying to shove their superstitions down other people’s throats.

Speak English, Grondo, or go back to Mexico!

Danger? It’s everywhere-watch a news channel for awhile and all you see are shootings, earthquakes, bombings, genocide. This is a dangerous world, so what do you do when you want to help? You consider the risks and the benefits then go where you need to go. Humanitarian aid organizations improve lives all over the world People who have had tremendous influence in social change know their actions represent risk–just look at our own history and be thankful for their courage. This is a time to mourn the life of someone willing to take a risk and grieve the social loss to her beloved community.

Superstitions…like: sewing and earning a living!

an aid worker who taught Afghan women income-producing skills such as sewing

I can see where someone like dhimmiboy would think that earning your own living is a dangerous superstition! From what I can tell, he avoids work, rational thought, and reading skills like the plague!

LOL… whats with the “50 Year Old” in the title? Is her age relevant to her murder?
I didn’t notice anything like 83 Year Old William F. Buckley, Jr. R.I.P.
    Bwahaha…

#1 Missionaries don’t belong in that part of the world at this time in history.

#2 Missionaries need to shut the fuck up, mind their own business, and stop trying to shove their superstitions down other people’s throats.

#1: Why? God said to go into all the world and bring the Gospel of Christ to every nation, should they disobey the God they do not think is a superstition? These missionaries also bring medicine, education, wells for water, homes, modern farming techniques and a host of other practical things that benefit these people, all to share the love of Christ and eternal life in Him. So, why don’t they belong there? Innumerable missionaries have suffered and died because they loved the lost more than their own lives, the poor and the dying of the world. I could offer many stories from Dr. Livingstone and Mother Theresa, people that went where they didn’t belong and made a difference out of love.

#2: So, what about Muslims, should they shut the fuck up, mind their own business, and stop trying to shove their superstitions down other people’s throats by rape, torture, murder and assassinations? What about socialists, should they shut the fuck up, mind their own business, and stop trying to shove their superstitions down other people’s throats by force, rape, torture and murder? How about Gore, what he promotes is a religion? What about Atheists, SCOTUS said they are a religion? Maybe everyone should stay home, never tell anyone what they believe, never help the world’s oppressed rise about their bondage, poverty and starvation. Great plan!

No, it is time to wash away the dishonor of her murder with the blood of her killers, and all who support them.

Moses v Pharaoh, Joshua v Jericho, Gideon v Midianites, Paul v Rome (pratically the entire early church v Rome)…Personal safety is an illusion whereby we think we’re in control of our own well being. I think in areas of the world where physical persecution is present there is a greater appreciation for our total reliance upon Him. In the “west” we’re shocked that someone would go to a “dangerous” part of the world to help others. If our chief end is truly “to glorify God by enjoying Him forever” (a Piper paraphrase) then the execution of His will must be the criteria for action, not my physical comfort or safety. At the end of the day not a hair on my head may be touched apart from His will. He clothes the flowers of the field and feeds the birds of the air. I’m made in His image and am therefore higher on His list of priorities. He has redeemed me through the blood of His Son. How can I not, in prayerful consideration, act upon Spirit-led conviction? Civil rights activists, I would refer to Martin Luther King as opposed to say the Black Panthers, were certainly working against the same kind of early church cultural/racial prejudice that has stayed with us here in the U.S. Whereas I would view “missionary” in a more rigid evangelical light, I would say that there was much prayerful consideration of the actions taken during the 60′s and could then say that the danger they were willing to face was danger that had to be risked for the greater mission…the mission of making us face our prejudice that was not and is still not today in anyway in line with God’s will. I guess my point is that any time danger is faced (not facing danger for danger’s sake much like persecution for righteous acts as opposed to just doing something dumb) as a result of following the Lord’s will, that “danger” in only to our temporal selves and not to our souls. Luke 12:4 says, “And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.” Paul wanted to go home to see his Savior, but was willing to stay here until all of the good works ordained for him had been accomplished. If to die is Christ and to live is gain, we really have nothing to “fear.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a huge fan of pain. I would not do well in a situation where I was captured, tortured, or killed. I’m sitting at home, typing on a computer, and rambling about pain and suffering from a very comfortable place. That danger does not really impact me daily. I only hope that I would say the same things if I found myself in Cyd’s situation. Long answer, sorry.

Missionaries need to shut the fuck up, mind their own business, and stop trying to shove their superstitions down other people’s throats.

Okay…..so, because she was a Christian makes it okay that she was brutally murdered?

I don’t get people like you.

This woman was there to help, not to preach. She taught Afghan women trades that could keep food in their mouths.

And, Mickey….I agree with you that misionaries don’t really belong there at this time. They’re seting themselves up for horror and grief. BUT – that doesn’t excuse this kind of inhuman action.

ANY person who would do this is an animal. Period.

  • http://dougeefargo.blogspot.com/ dougee

I see that dannyboy is showing us how much him and his fellow liberals support free speech unless it is the speech of a Christian.

  • Neiman

Any call for retribution for this crime would violate the Spirit of Christ, for which this person died. Jesus forgave those that murdered Him a perfectly innocent man; and those that risk their lives in His name, would not be honored by any desire for bloodlust.

This woman gave her time and talents in Jesus name and whether she preached the Gospel or not, she was a missionary of Jesus to those people!

Missionaries are just doing on what they belief in. In don’t really matter if they’re in the dessert, mountains or even iraq. They are just doing their job. We, in the seminary greatly appreciate your dedication for spreading the word of christ
