Did Obama Do All He Could To Prevent Wikileaks??

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

In WikiLeaks, Hillary Clinton, and the Smoking Gun, in Slate, Jack Shafer explores some of the damage done to Obama’s current Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. As readers of this blog know and many others suspect, Hillary will probably be Obama’s number one opponent in the 2012 primaries. So does this leak help or harm Hillary in 2012?

To be fair to Clinton, she isn’t the first secretary of state to issue cables telling U.S. foreign service officers to spy on other diplomats…

…But what makes Clinton’s sleuthing unique is the paper trail that documents her spying-on-their-diplomats-with-our-diplomat orders, a paper trail that is now being splashed around the world on the Web and printed in top newspapers. No matter what sort of noises Clinton makes about how the disclosures are “an attack on America” and “the international community,” as she did today, she’s become the issue. She’ll never be an effective negotiator with diplomats who refuse to forgive her exuberances, and even foreign diplomats who do forgive her will still regard her as the symbol of an overreaching United States. Diplomacy is about face, and the only way for other nations to save face will be to give them Clinton’s scalp.

My contention was that Hillary would stick with Obama, at lest nominally, until some “crisis of conscience” caused her to resign. (Failing a major conscience crisis, she could cite the cumulative effect of many smaller crises.) End game: Hillary takes a moral stand for the good of the party and is “forced” to run against Obama in 2012.
What if this wikileaks business is an attempt to force her out before she can bring her plans to fruition? By weakening her as Sec State, she is also weakened as a potential Commander-in-Chief. Damaging her with our allies, damages her as presidential material.

The damage these revelations have caused is summed up by Shafer thusly:

There is no way that the new WikiLeaks leaks don’t leave Hillary Clinton holding the smoking gun. The time for her departure may come next week or next month, but sooner or later, the weakened and humiliated secretary of state will have to pay.

So, in light of the fact that the first round of wikileaks during the Obama administration cast Bush and the military in a bad light, and the second round seems to do the same for the State Department, whose titular head is a likely opponent in 2012, is it any surprise that an administration that without warning, shut down more than 70 websites for sharing music and movies cannot left a finger to stop the leaks of classified government documents by wikileaks?

Could it be that the administration had assurances if not advanced knowledge of what was going to be released, and if not complicit, was at least passive to their leaking?

I would like to believe that there is nothing nefarious going on here, but to believe that I would also have to believe that liberals actually have a brain. There is something more than meets the eye in play, and we may never know the details of it all. Politics is a dirty business, and no one can get dirtier than the Democrats when it comes to saving their own bacon. Going to be an interesting couple of years.

This is all very convoluted. Probably one thing is sure: Both Hillary and Obama think they know for sure. But there will still be unexpected consequences. The Wikileak thing has been going on a long time. You can bet that all sorts of political plots are in play that are based on it. None involve any concern for the country.

Poof there goes another contender to get rid of Obama. Like magic.

Hillary, welcome to what ever it takes to destroy you, the Chicago way.

This may be Hillary's elbow to the face from Obama.

Obama is fine. But his predecessors and "colegues" are scared to death from wikileaks. At least someone keeps an eye on them!

He could have done more. Just putting a large bounty on Assanges head would have kept him very busy hiding from bounty hunters.

As for hurting Hillary, who knows? Dick Morris was saying last night that this is her usual modus operandi anyway. She's always looking for blackmail information, or to put it in Liberal spin-ease, negotiating room.

From what I have heard and read about the leaks enough governments would have reason to whack him that you would probably never find out who did it. He is likely under protection of some sort. A few decades back, this guy would have been page 26, "Unknown male remains found … ."

If they really want to stop these leaks that endanger lives and our ability to conduct both foreign policy and military campaigns – as soon as possible try, convict and execute the soldier that leaked them, that will have a most profound impact on future leakers. Then issue an international warrant with a bounty dead or alive for the Wikileaks guy. The reaction must be fast and severe or it will be open season for anyone wanting to hurt our country through leaking top secret documents.

hmmm……look at the connections G.Soro's has to the Wiki-leaker……………and then on G.Soro's left hand his connections to Obama

it goes thru Code Pink/B.Manning to Soros…….which takes you to BillAyers…then onto the Movement for Democratic Society & Black Panthers which then leads you to Open Socieity Inst. funded by Soros. WikiLeaks' advisory board member was a director of the China office of Human Rights Watch, which is Soros funded…credits to G.Beck.

in summary its like a real world James Bond Movie with a classic bad guy in a tangled web of deceit, underwritten by the Democrat party of the USA. But doggone they vote democrat cause' their grandaddy voted for JFK….who would be as right wing today as S.Palin

This Wikileaks thing is troubling. Any nation has the right to keep it’s secrets. This Assange guy clearly has a vendetta against the U.S.. He’s an Austrailian right? Would he like to see all of that country’s secrets spilled out in the open? There is no nation in the world that doesn’t have state secrets. What about national defence? One thing that is being overlooked is that sometimes such secrets help to avoid war. Did Assange ever think of that? No….he’s looking to embarass the United States and make a name for himself. I think his 15 minutes of fame will be over soon enough.
