40% of US Oil and Natural Gas Off Limits

Due to the incompetents in Congress:

BILLINGS, Mont. — A new report from the Bush administration says most of the oil and more than 40 percent of the natural gas beneath public lands in the U.S. are off limits to drilling.

Opening those reserves — by rolling back environmental safeguards and employing new drilling technologies — would give energy companies access to an estimated 19 billion barrels of oil and 231 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, administration officials said Wednesday.

The Bureau of Land Management report is likely to add to growing political pressure to curb fuel imports and dampen prices by ramping up domestic energy production. But it comes amid a development backlash in some parts of the country, where drilling rigs are blamed for interrupting wildlife migrations, fouling water supplies and marring natural vistas.

40% of our resources are off limits and the Democrats in Congress are having a show trial for oil company executives.  The Democrat that runs the House Natural Resources Committee, Nick Rahall, says “We simply cannot drill our way to lower prices at the pump.” What in the world is he smoking.  In the real world you get lower prices by producing more.  If you don’t produce enough to meet demand the price goes up.

I’m beginning to think that these guys are really that stupid.  It might not just be politics.

Gas prices have skyrocketed.  If nothing else more US production means more money staying in the US rather than being shipped overseas.

That dishonest Whistler. The headline says that 40% of oil and gas are offlimits. I know ALL gas isn’t off limits.

(Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

We currently export over 660 billion dollars a year for oil to places that mostly don’t like us.

Sure domesstic production won’t replace all of that but I’d rather keep our money here too.

Depends on the meaning of drilling our way out of this problem of high prices. It is a good probability were congress to open up our off-shore, national areas, and ANWAR to prospecting and drilling the price per barrel would come down within one minute after the bill was passed.

The US Congress have recently voted down any additional drilling in the US. Expect oil prices to increase more in the future.

This should be a major issue in the upcoming elections.

Unfortunately the Republican nominee is a fellow traveler with the far left on energy policy.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Just beginning? Higher paying day jobs are available in the private sector. Those who can, do, those who can’t, teach, those who can do neither...legislate.

Just exactly what are “environmental safeguards”

Those are the ones that keep the Saudi Royal family driving a new Rolls Royce every week.

Usually, when a public official uses a phrase that has the word “mental” embedded in it, it’s a clear indication that no though has been applied to the consequences of what their about to ram up your poop chute for your own good.

These clowns want to turn the clock back to the seventh century, just like the Mideast dirt bags do!

Am I the only person who remembers Algore telling America in the mid-’90s that we should have to pay the same for fuel as Europeans do? So as to reduce the amount of fuel we use? Hello!! Hello!! This has been the goal of environazis for 50 years.

Restrict the access to resources, place all resources under direct control of government, restrict travel and transport among the citizenry, and stop the free movement of said citizens forcing everyone to live in government controlled housing.

The above paragraph is exactly what Algore and many other senior Democrats have been working towards for decades. And they have never been shy or quiet about their intentions.
