Coincidence?

As you may or may not know, I'm a baseball fan. A New York Yankees fan to be exact. A fanatic to be very specific. I simply cannot get enough baseball. I love it.

George Steinbrenner is the owner of the Yankees. For those of you who are not familiar with baseball let me provide a little background. The Yankees are the most hated team in the baseball. They've won far and away more pennants and championships than any other team in the history of the sport. Mr. Steinbrenner is not afraid to spend money on his team and his leadership is often blamed for "buying up" all the talent in the sport. The Yankees have more money and resources than a lot of other teams and are often able to outbid them for free agents and rookie signings.

Major League Baseball, as a way to discourage teams from wild spending, has placed a "luxury tax" on teams with a payroll over $100 million, or some ridiculous amount like that. If a team goes over that limit, the tax takes effect.

So imagine the irony of these two headlines, in this exact order, being on my news page this morning:

Yankees Get Tax Bill From Baseball: $11.8 Million
Steinbrenner Faints, Alert When Taken to Hospital

I couldn't stop laughing.
