Gay Bashing State Lawmaker Says He Hopes "People Respect Me For Who I Am"

This will probably be my last post on Rep. Dwight Kiefert’s (R-Valley City) adventures in semi-literate social media commentary, but I couldn’t help but post his response to his claim that “homisexuals” are “metally ill” being made public.

The Fargo Forum has picked up on the story – days after it first appeared here on SAB and without a hat tip for where they got the story, naturally – and asked Kiefert about his remarks. Here’s what he had to say:

Kiefert said in the interview that his post was not a “public statement,” but merely a request that people to look into the issue.

“There’s a lot of question marks,” he said.”Was what I read true? I don’t know.

“The bottom line is: Through my faith, I have to oppose it,” Kiefert, who is Christian, said of homosexuality.

He added that his viewpoints have earned him threats in the past.

“I just hope people respect me for who I am,” he said.

The man who thinks homosexuals are mentally ill wants to be respected for who he is.

You can’t make this stuff up. Someone should ask Kiefert if he feels long-time lawmaker, and fellow Republican, Rep. Randy Boehning is mentally ill. I’d be interested in hearing the answer.

Anyway, here’s Kiefert’s comments again if you missed them:

And a follow-up comment wherein Kiefert compares gay marriage to beastality:
