State Of The Union Open Thread

WASHINGTON Jan 31, 2006 — President Bush, in a push to take charge of the election-year agenda, is expected to say Tuesday that “America is addicted to oil” and must break its dependence on foreign suppliers in unstable parts of the world.

In his State of the Union address, Bush also is expected to renew his commitment to the central pledge of his inaugural address. “Our nation is committed to an historic, long-term goal we seek the end of tyranny in our world,” he plans to say. “The future security of America depends on it.”

Just to make things interesting, Cindy Sheehan herself will be seated in the gallery during the speech.
Congresswoman Lynn Woosley gave anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan a gallery pass late Tuesday for the State of the Union speech. Sheehan accepted the invitation just two hours prior to the speech.

If you want to watch online you can grab a live video feed here. Audio-only link here.

Update:

Just heard from a reader that Sheehan was arrested in D.C. No word yet on why, but a few things come to mind.

Look on the bright side, they’ll probably spend less time pointing the camera at Hillary.

The spokesman also said that Sheehan will be respectful and listen to the address because she is a guest of a member of congress

Heh.

She had a banner and tried to unfurl it in the gallery.

Any word yet on what she was canned for?  Not that I would blame them if they did it on general principles.  The woman was just down standing next to Chavez calling Bush an illegitimate President and a terrorist.  She shouldn’t have access to the President at all, and shame on Rep. Woosley for giving her access.

Does anyone know where the great bloviator, Ted (Killer) Kennedy was or what he was doing? I did not see him in the audience when the network panned them. Maybe he was embarassed by his meltdown (I do doubt that though).
