Sheehan Admires Chavez

First Belafonte, now Sheehan...
CARACAS (AFP) - Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, joined more than 10,000 anti-globalization activists in Caracas, where she hailed Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez.

"I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling," said Sheehan, who gained notoriety when she camped outside US President George W. Bush's ranch last year to protest the Iraq war. She said she hoped to meet Chavez later in the week.

So...can we question Cindy Sheehan's patriotism yet? She is openly taking sides with an enemy of our government, and plans on meeting with him in person no less.

Opposing President Bush and his policies is one thing. Taking sides against your own government with a non-friendly foreign government is quite another.

What's most interesting to me is that while activists like Sheehan bemoan the "lack of democracy" in Bush's elections and America's move toward "totalitarianism" and "fascism" here at home, they have no problem buddying up with a communist apologist whose civil liberties record is sketchy, at best.

Update:

A commenter adds:
Which state is more repressive? Ask yourself this:

If Sheehan or Belafonte spouted their rhetoric instead against the Venezuelan government (standing in downtown Caracas with a bullhorn), what would happen to them?

My guess would be prison. Or some rough treatment from Venezuealan police, at least.

Yes, you can.

enemy of our government

uh...Chavez is an “enemy”? Really?

Last I heard we were still buying oil from Venezuela.

Maybe you should try something other than the “700 Club” for your information...wink

I wish Cindy Sheehan(media hog) would give it up and go somewhere where where we won’t have to see her face! I hear Venezuela is lovely this time of year…
To dishonor her son and his memory and belief in securing Iraq against Saddams evil dictatorship is sick!

Any chance someone could convince her to simply renounce her citizenship while she’s there?

After all, if Chavez is so much better…

Found this interview on Alarming News (h/t to Karol):

And about Bill Clinton . . . . You know, I really think he should have been impeached, but not for a blow job. His policies are responsible for killing more Iraqis that George Bush. I don’t understand why to rise to the level of being president of my country one has to be a monster. I used to say that George Bush was defiling the Oval Office, but it’s been held by a long line of monsters. We don’t have to support our administrations to love our country. True patriots of my country dissent when our country’s doing something so wrong.

There goes all the good will from the left.

Yeah.  That was a rhetorical question.  ; )

[...] Ok, I guess it’s only really a press release if you consider me, as a blogger, a journalist. Rob at Sayanything happened to catch a tasty little tidbit on that illustrious traitor, Cindy Sheehan. I have to admit that I was a little mad about the whole “bring our troops home” bit. This newest bit, however, has taken me way past that. She’s lucky that we have the right to denounce our country the way that she does. The point is made in Rob’s post that if she were a citizen of Venezuela and denounced Venezuala or Chavez, she would most likely end up in jail or worse. [...]

They would probably be forced to leave. Bad PR for Chavez to jail them.

The better question would be: If Sheehan or Belafonte, as Venezuelian citizens, spouted their rhetoric instead, against the Venezuelan Government, while in downtown Caracas with a bullhorn, what would happen to them?
