Sheehan Admires Chavez
CARACAS (AFP) - Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, joined more than 10,000 anti-globalization activists in Caracas, where she hailed Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez.
"I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling," said Sheehan, who gained notoriety when she camped outside US President George W. Bush's ranch last year to protest the Iraq war. She said she hoped to meet Chavez later in the week.
So...can we question Cindy Sheehan's patriotism yet? She is openly taking sides with an enemy of our government, and plans on meeting with him in person no less.
Opposing President Bush and his policies is one thing. Taking sides against your own government with a non-friendly foreign government is quite another.
What's most interesting to me is that while activists like Sheehan bemoan the "lack of democracy" in Bush's elections and America's move toward "totalitarianism" and "fascism" here at home, they have no problem buddying up with a communist apologist whose civil liberties record is sketchy, at best.

Which state is more repressive? Ask yourself this:
If Sheehan or Belafonte spouted their rhetoric instead against the Venezuelan government (standing in downtown Caracas with a bullhorn), what would happen to them?
My guess would be prison. Or some rough treatment from Venezuealan police, at least.
