Friends Of Alito

Progress for America, a conservative non-profit advocacy group, has launched an 18 state "barnstorm" tour of America in support of Sam Alito's nomination for the Supreme Court. One of the states they're visiting is North Dakota, and the people they've brought along to talk about Judge Alito are Bill Agress (a life-long friend who met Alito in high school) and Chris Ericksen (a former intern to the judge).

I've been invited to meet with these men. The meeting is taking place this Wedensday (Jan. 4th) down in Bismarck, so I'll be traveling down there for a meet and greet over lunch.

The point of all this is to learn more about Judge Alito by talking to the people who know him best. It should be interesting. If any of you have some questions you'd like me to ask by all means post them here and I'll see if I can get an answer.

Barnstorm?
Get Pictures.
Pack your own parachute.
I want to see them fly the plane with everybody standing on the right wing.

Please remember that this is a highly-biased infomercial, and NOT a chance “to learn more about Judge Alito by talking to the people who know him best.”

Please, please, please don’t accept everything they say as gospel truth.

The thing is, load, that most liberals can cite evidence for Mr. Alito’s unfitness for the High Court.

When you dismiss anyone who dares---dares!---to doubt the total honesty of the Bush regime as “zealots,” you do yourself a great diservice.

Please remember the above when the left-wing zealots begin bloviating about Alito’s ‘unfitness’ next week.

Disservice?  Apart from a single memo he wrote during the Reagan administration, I haven’t seen any.  Big problem with that, Don.

There’s been plenty written, pro and con, on Alito.

Personally, I thought this characterization to be pretty on target:

What these episodes illustrate is a man who is not a lawless zealot but a careful lawyer with the professionalism to give legally sound but unwelcome advice. They also show a person who can tell the difference between the law and his own political predilections.

Sounds like a pretty good choice to me.  Even if I were a modern liberal (which I obviously am not), I would prefer Judge Alito over some of the other choices.  As Sphagnum pointed out to me once, “elections matter”.  The ‘pubs won the last couple of rounds of elections and control the Senate and Presidency.  Like it or not, they have the majority opinion in who should be installed to replace Justice O’Connor.

There isn’t going to be a Republican nominee that Don Myers would approve of (given how far out of the mainstream Don is, perhaps not even a Democratic nominee would do), so we can all stop holding our breath for that to happen!

[...] PS- Funny thing though. I’m supposed to have lunch with Mr. Agress in Fargo tomorrow… and Rob, at Sayanything, is supposed to have lunch with Mr. Agress in Bismarck tomorrow… something is going on. I’ll get to the bottom of it. [...]

I’m not actually sure what to expect from this meeting.  I don’t even know what questions I can ask that they’re really qualified to answer.  For the most part I hope to just watch, listen and gain some perspective.

And yes, Don, I realize that this may well be an informercial put on by an advocacy group.  I am quite capable of credulity, though I doubt most of my liberal commenters would give me credit for that.

Well Rob, it’s just that you treat Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Washington Times and the GOPs NewsMax like the voice of God Almighty that makes me doubt your credulity.

They way you slobbered over the folks who put together that “Justice Sunday” circle jerk also gives one pause

Rob: So are they actually going to be holding speeches/debates open to the public? It’d be an interesting way to spend an afternoon, assuming Dostoevsky’s not busy.

Justice Sunday?  Did I even post about that?

And don’t give me your crap about Newsmax when you backup all your assertions with links to far-left sites which are every bit as partisan as Newsmax.

As far as I know this is a private lunch not open to the public, but you’re right… some public speeches would a lot of good as well.

I didn’t have anything to do with the planning of this.  They just got in touch with me and invited me to come.  I don’t know who else will be there or really what the agenda is for the meeting.

I don’t get the Dostoevsky reference though…

Kid, I often link to sites that---while certainly advocating a particular point of view---back up their claims with research and evidence.

NewsMax, The Washington Times, GOPUSA, and the others that you trust with child-like faith make...shit...up.

Until you understand the difference, the crap will continue.

Don, when I link to a Newsmax article I’m usually certain that it is accurate.  They’re partisan, sure, and they get a lot of stuff wrong.  But they aren’t always wrong, as you suggest.
