Surprised?
You know what's amazing about the media coverage of this poll that came out today? The fact that so many in the media are reporting as being a "surprising" result.
In Iraq we have toppled a ruthless dictator who used rape, murder and industrial plastic shredders to enforce his regime. In his place we have established a government elected by the people with a set of laws that were also approved by the people. We are rebuilding schools, hospitals and other neccessary infrastructure.
Even the insurgents are getting into the act, encouraging their people to vote in the polls and take part in the government rather than resist democracy.
Why should we be surprised that Iraqis are, generally, happy about these developments? Especially when these developments are exactly what the Bush administration has been aiming toward since the end of the invasion?
Maybe these reporters are spending too much time reading their own reporting and not enough time observing what is actually happening in Iraq.
