Major Media Ignoring Dean’s Defeatism
While conservative talk radio blazed this week over DNC chair Howard Dean's comments on Iraq, that the idea we're going to win is "wrong," an important question arises: did the average American who does NOT listen to talk radio, but relies on network morning or evening news, hear the same uproar? Are the aware of the brouhaha? Don't bet on it. A quick search of the name "Howard Dean" in Nexis from Sunday to Friday showed no Dean mention on ABC. None on CBS. NBC had this snippet on Wednesday morning from Kelly O'Donnell: "The president dismissed comments from Democratic Party Chair Howard Dean, who compared Iraq to the Vietnam war." That's the closest the networks came.
The war in Iraq is the biggest issue facing this country right now. I'd be willing to wager that there is more time spent by our media covering the war than any other topic right now, yet when the leader of one of country's two major political parties announces that we cannot win that war it goes largely ignored by the mainstream media.
Hell, the fact that a national Democrat politician told Dean to "shut up" after making these comments went largely uncovered. You can't tell me that isn't news worth covering.
I think this tells us two things. First, there is no level too low for the media to stoop to in order to shill for leftists interests. Second, the media recognizes how morally bankrupt the left's defeatist rhetoric is and that's why they're blacking out the worst of it. If they thought Dean's comments would gain traction with Americans there is no doubt they'd be covering it endlessly and calling for more.
