Earl Pomeroy Tells Dean To Shut Up

My Representative, Earl Pomeroy (D - ND), just issued Howard Dean a smack down:

Jim Monk:

Well Dean recently told a San Antonio radio station that the idea that the U.S. will win the war is quote %u201Cjust plain wrong%u201D an angry Pomeroy tells WDAY news this morning that Dean%u2019s comments are inappropriate and show a lack of discipline.

Congressman Pomeroy:

Well my words to Howard Dean would be simple, shut up. He is not trusted with the senior policy responsibilities, he is the head of a political party, this is not his job, comments like he made are not helpful, they don%u2019t reflect views of democrats in congress and you know they just he does not have license at this point to be expressing his personal opinion in that way.

Jim Monk:

Pomeroy said U.S. troops know better than to allow Dean%u2019s comments to bother them he says we owe it to the troops to have a vigorous national discussion about the war but Pomeroy said Dean%u2019s words are not relevant at all to the serious policy debates that congress must have with the President.

Right on, though part of me wonders if Pomeroy is saying this to placate his pro-Bush, red state constituents who are likely a bit riled up by the kidnapping and possible execution of one of their own.

[...] Dean claims his quote “was a little out of context”. What’s the proper context, Dr. Death? “Quagmire”? That’s what your boy, Murtha, is saying! And the Democrat Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi backs his call for “immediate withdrawal” or “redeployment” as the spin goes. But it seems Pelosi doesn’t expect the other Democrats in the House to adopt her defeatism. “Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly said that while Pelosi estimates more than half of House Democrats favor a speedy withdrawal, she will lobby members in today’s meeting against adopting this as a caucus position.” Underscoring the pure political calculaiton of it all, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) and Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (Md.), the second-ranking House Democratic leader, have told colleagues that Pelosi’s recent endorsement of a speedy withdrawal, combined with her claim that more than half of House Democrats support her position, could backfire on the party. And just to make sure we’ve shed sufficient light on the divide between the Democrat “leadership” of Dean, Pelosi, Kerry, and Murtha and the handful of Democrats who recognize the edge of the cliff that the Kos Kidz and Moveondotnever have been been hurridly carrying the Democrat party toward, North Dakota Democat Earl Pomeroy had these kind words to offer the Democrat Comittee Chair: “Well my words to Howard Dean would be simple, shut up. He is not trusted with the senior policy responsibilities, he is the head of a political party, this is not his job, comments like he made are not helpful, they don’t reflect views of democrats in congress and you know they just he does not have license at this point to be expressing his personal opinion in that way.” [...]

If Pomeroy- and the rest of the left- were serious about distancing themselves form Dean’s treasonous comments, they would have fought harder and publicly against his being named head of the DNC in the first place. They knew he was a scorpion when they picked him up; they just felt that defeatism was something that would play well to their base and make Democraitc donors cough up the fundraising bucks.
Pomeroy is just trying to jump off the train before it crashes.

DaveP. said it all really.

The only thing worse than defeatists such as Dean is their ‘enablers’ in the Democratic Party who are perfectly prepared to go along unless it looks as if the PEOPLE are getting upset.

They ALL need to go.

-ND) Tells Howard Dean To “Shut Up” Finally, some Democrats are uniting behind a viable Iraq policy.  Is Howard Dean’s shutting up enough to win the war in Iraq? No. But it would be a very encouraging Step One.  Nothing Says It Better Than A Photoshopped WWII Propaganda Poster: Seriously, Howie. Shut your piehole.

[...] Just when I thought the guy was capable standing up against the defeatists in his own party. Of course, Pomeroy’s backpedaling is totally divorced from reality. Here are his original comments:  Jim Monk: [...]
