Jay Rockefeller: Traitor?

Could be.

Earlier today I posted some comments from Senator Rockefeller, among them this:

...this question is asked a thousand times and I’ll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq – that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.

I didn't pick up on the significance of this statement, but Captain Ed Morrissey did:

Now, what the hell was Rockefeller doing revealing his analysis of American foreign policy and the direction of war strategy to Bashar Assad??

If this is true, Rockefeller should get ejected from the Senate and possibly stand trial for treason. In 2002, we were at war against Islamofascist terrorists, and Syria has long been listed by the US State Department as a terrorist-supporting state. What Rockefeller admitted was conspiring with the enemy during a state of war -- and he should be held accountable, especially considering his admission of the act on national television.

Readers over at Captain's Quarters are calling for prosecution under the Logan Act. That makes sense, but even from a purely moral/ethical standpoint what Rockefeller did is dead wrong.

I, for one, hope he is called out on this one.

This seems familiar...don’t the Democrats have a long history of forays into foreign policy when they’re out of power? Visits to the Sandinistas under Reagan, pre-war visits to Saddam and now this? Can you think of similar trips by Republicans under Clinton or Carter? I can’t!

If the MSM wasn’t so heavily in the tank for the Democrats, this would be the story of the year. Period.

Rockerfeller belongs in jail for this.

Congress needs to get a clear message that such policy forays are not a good idea.

Two things about this post:

1) Quit calling people who talk about their opinions traitors.  It’s silly.

2) “Islamo-fascist” is a stupid, awkward, and terrible phrase.  It makes my head hurt.  Use something less non-sensical, please - I keep getting images of Hitler praying to Mecca and bin Laden offering Rumsfeld a red armband.

I don’t.  But can we call people who travel to unfriendly, potentially enemy governments and tell them about our President’s intentions traitors?  Or should we wait around for you to tell us who we can and cannot consider a traitor based on your own, partisan criteria?

Ahh...so I should be more sensitive to the terrorists?  I don’t understand it.  Islamo-fascist is a perfectly accurate term in that the terrorists are Islamic and support their own, special brand of fascism.
