Franken: Rove, Libby Are Going To Be Executed

Twit:

"And so basically, what it looks like is going to happen is that Libby and Karl Rove are going to be executed” because “outing a CIA agent is treason,” left-wing author and radio talk show host Al Franken asserted Friday night, to audience laughter, on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman. Franken qualified his hard-edged satire: "Yeah. And I don't know how I feel about it because I'm basically against the death penalty, but they are going to be executed it looks like." Franken later suggested that President Bush is at risk of receiving the same punishment, since Karl Rove likely told him what he did, but he added a caveat: “I think, by the way, that we should never ever, ever, ever execute a sitting President."

No wonder nobody is listening.

Really Democrat really shouldn’t be throwing around the charge of treason. If we take treason seriously anymore, half the Senate and House would be draw and quarter, must of them with house a D next to their name.  Democat=treason.

I’ve always liked his humor, even when I disagree with him.

Good thing for Al that he said this on Letterman’s show.  If he’d said it on his own Air America program no one whould have heard it.

Take a look in the mirror: It sure isn’t Franken’s party (or ideology) that supports the execution of criminals.

you pinhead, he was joking.  the joke is that treason is supposedly punishable by death, but it would never happen to Rove or Libby or well, any modern politician.

I guess the right really has no sense of humor.  To compare Franken’s comments with Pat Robertson’s is idiotic.  If you’ve ever read Franken’s works, or seen his work on SNL, you know he is a satirist.  He wasn’t even calling for their execution, he deadpanned that they would be when asked.  This is called comedy, or satire for the retarded out there.  The big difference here is that Robertson actually believed in what he said (he also believes in an invisible avenger in the sky that needs our money sent to Pat), but clearly Franken does not believe there will be execution.  He was using wordplay (ie., the treason lead-in) and then made the satirical (over the top) comment, and it is funny.

If the right wingers in this country had had their way, we’d still see bans on dancing and rock music.  I’ll take the progressive approach any day over the lunacy of these old timey, “the good ol’ days of cross burning are no more” crowd.

Something else to consider—the middle east, if they ever try to go “democratic” versus the religious politics they have now, will have to be (ready for this?), more liberal.
Now that must hurt you right wing non-book reading, science bashing, supernaturalist believing cretins.  Oh, and the earth is flat too, huh.

Gordon, this devout atheist right-winger who hangs out in bars and loves rock music disagrees with pretty much everything you just said.

Stereotyping is bad.

I think I need to clarify something—folks correctly admonish me for painting a wide brush over conservatives (I considered myself one throughout the 80s).  My observation has been that the so-called “religious right” or “moral majority” have basically high jacked this once proud party of smaller Govt, less intrusion into the lives of others, and clear separation of church and state.  Now they are the party of fear, who like to come up with BS issues, like gay marriage—news flash! Marriage is a religious rite!  The state(s) should care less about this, the church can dictate who can and who cannot get married in their church.  This mantra about gay marriage should be instead referred to what it really is, civil unions, such that they can care for, and/or make decisions for a loved one, just like hetero folks (like me).  Who am I to deny them that right—I see through the BS and know that the GOP is fear-mongering to get the church vote, saying (mistakenly) that this somehow diminishes hetero marriage.  I, for one, do not “feel” threatened by this BS issue—because it cannot.

First, Franken said they should be executed, then he said the President should never be executed.  On which occasion was he joking?  He never said that Karl Rove shouldn’t be executed, so maybe that gives you an insight about what he really wishes would happen. I will say that Al Franken never, never, never, ever should be executed.
