“Terrorist Act” At Georgia Tech

11Alive.com - Three explosive devices found in a courtyard between two Georgia Tech dormitories on the East Campus Monday morning were part of a "terrorist act," an Atlanta police official said.

One of the devices exploded, injuring the custodian who found them inside a plastic bag. Two others were detonated by a bomb squad.

The custodian suffered ringing to the ears and was treated at a local hospital. The events led to a temporary evacuation Monday morning.

"It is a terrorist act at this point and depending on the outcome of the investigation it potentially could become a federal violation as well," said Major C.W. Moss of the Atlanta Police Department.

The custodian found the three devices about 9 a.m. in a plastic-type garbage bag, Moss said. When he picked up the bag, one exploded, as it was designed to do when handled. The explosives were made up of chemicals placed inside plastic bottles and could have seriously injured someone, officials said. Numerous agencies were on the Georgia Tech campus to search for suspects.

No word yet on a connection to Islam. From my amateur viewpoint I'd say this bombing doesn't really match the Islamic terrorist M.O. Those guys tend to go for big, crowded areas and their attacks typically result in the "martyring" of the bomber. The bombing described above sounds more like something Ted Kaczynski would have done.

Michelle Malkin has more, including details about another suspicious find on the Georgia Tech campus earlier this morning and an explosive device found on the UCLA campus.

Given the Hinrichs incident at the University of Oklahoma over a week ago this is beginning to look like a trend, although links to extreme Islam are scant (outside of Hinrichs).

I wonder, though, if the terrorists are launching a coordinated attack here in America why on earth are they targeting universities? There is no place in America where dhimmitude is accepted like the nation's college campuses.

Sorry Brandon. That eggregious error has been fixed.

Given what I know of college football devotion and gun-ownership rates in the state of Oklahoma, I’d be careful next time I go there, Rob… wink

Ahem, University of Oklahoma.

We Sooners don’t like to get confused in any way, shape, or form with our aggie cousins to the north in Stillwater.

on the outcome of the investigation it potentially could become a federal violation as well,’ said Major C.W.
