Yet More Eminent Domain Abuse

I'm so sick of this stuff... It's not the Governments land!!!!!!

The Washington Times
"This is a community that's in dire need of jobs, which has a median income of less than $19,000 a year," said Riviera Beach Mayor Michael Brown.
He defends the use of eminent domain by saying the city is "using tools that have been available to governments for years to bring communities like ours out of the economic doldrums and the trauma centers."
Mr. Brown said Riviera Beach is doing what the city of New London, Conn., is trying to do and what the U.S. Supreme Court said is proper in its ruling June 23 in Kelo v. City of New London. That decision upheld the right of government to seize private properties for use by private developers for projects designed to generate jobs and increase the tax base.
"Now eminent domain is affecting people who never had to deal with it before and who have political connections," Mr. Brown said. "But if we don't use this power, cities will die."
Jacqui Loriol insists she and her husband will fight the loss of their 80-year-old home in Riviera Beach.
"This is a very [racially] mixed area that's also very stable," she said. "But no one seems to care ... Riviera Beach needs economic redevelopment. But there's got to be another way."
In the Kelo ruling, a divided Supreme Court held that private development offering jobs and increased tax revenues constituted a public use of property, but the court held that state legislatures can draft eminent-domain statutes to their satisfaction.

You know, the government has another powerful tool that is useful for creating jobs.  Its called “cutting taxes.”

For some reason, though, they’re sort of hesitant to use that tool

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

May I remind people that we have a 2nd Amendment for just this very thing.

It’s not just the goverment, it’s Democrats in government, just like the Kelo case.

I am a resident of Riviera beach, Florida. We are not homeowners, but renters for 5 years now. We were told by my husbands boss/landlord that we had to move because he sold his property here for redevelopment. We were given 3 months to move out. We were not offered any money or another place to live. I have been searching everywhere for affordable housing and can’t find a thing. We do not make enough to afford the housing here and it just so happens that 3 weeks before Christmas and 5 weeks before we were supposed to vacate his boss/landlord fired him. We lost 3 weeks of pay and his Christmas bonus, he has since found another job in which he had to take a pay cut of $6, just so we can survive. I know you can’t live in Palm beach County at this time and survive off of 10 or $16 an hour, but we are stuck. We have both lived here all our lives and are being forced into the streets. This is a shame, because the MAYOR and the mayors BROTHER is the person making all the money demolishing these properties and it just so happens the same week my husband was fired, he demolished a property behind our house to make a parking lot for a big yahct company and knocked out our phone lines for almost 2 weeks, killing any income I could’ve made through an online business I run on the computer.Busta/Jeff Brown has bragged that he will be taking all the houses down and how much money he is making. The Mayor is currupt as well as the police department. We also have an elderly woman here on oxygen with a fixed income. Nobody cares about us and it seems the poor here are getting poorer, while the rich are getting richer. I also search some records for the Riviera beach redevelopement where they were selling properties for $10 and as a matter of fact our property sold with several others for over a million dollars were sold for $20,000 in the court records!! Who is profiting?????? and WHO isn’t paying their taxes??????????? Not us, not the poor, not the homeowners. Right now in this county/city every one is out for themselves, their families and their own pocket. I had to tell my 4 and 5 year old that there is no Santa and I will have to make it up to them in march!!! That is real sad, we don’t even know where we will live, nobody will let us move in for less than 3 to 4 thousand dollars, that is if you even pass the credit checks!! I don’t know who will work for these RICH people once the working class poor are gone, who will clean their houses, boats, cars etc? I am beyond myself with what just happened. We are a family of 5 who have no where else to go. Thanks for listening, Danielle
