Sheehan In Jail

Yawn...

WASHINGTON -- Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who has used her son's death in Iraq to spur the anti-war movement, was arrested Monday while protesting outside the White House.

Sheehan and several dozen other protesters sat down on the sidewalk after marching along the pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests.

Sheehan was the first taken into custody. She stood up and was led to a police vehicle while protesters chanted, "The whole world is watching."

Cue the cries of "crushing of dissent" and "violating free speech."

Frankly, I'm convinced this was a publicity stunt. Sheehan needs to be the martyr. Getting herself arrested is just one way of doing that.

And yes, I bought in. I'm giving her attention, but only because I think Sheehan exemplifies the kind of mindless idiocy that is pervasive among the more rabid (and most vocal) factions of the anti-war left. The more attention she gets the less Americans will take people like her seriously.

Update:

Here's a picture of her being taken away.

Cindy Sheehan Arrested

Look at that self-satisfied smug. Getting arrested was exactly what she wanted.

I’m just not getting something here ...

All these postings bash Sheehan over and over again.

The condescending tone, the quoting of text as if it somehow made you sound smarter, etc ... don’t you people feel a little stupid?  I just happened upon this site and being an independent I thought it was possible that there could be some sort of intelligent commentary about the growing anti-war sentiment (across all party lines) ... apparently not.

Hugely disapointed,

One of the most effective crowd control techniques ever was employed by the South Koreans around the time of the 1988 Olympics.  At the time, Korean students were famous for their massive protests and battles with the police.  The press ate it up with a spoon.  One of the more radical universities decided to have a huge protest and announced the time and place.

Now, you need to understand that Korean universities look like walled forts.  At the appointed hour, the students geared up and charged through the gates to confront the enemy.  There was only one problem.  The government had decided to NOT do anything about the protest.  AS the cameras rolled, the students milled about for a bit then eventually headed back inside.  Robbed of their chance to “make a statement,” there was no interest remaining in protesting.  As a result of this policy change, there were no protests during the Olympics.

Let’s try and think of an example of Bush and cronies doing anything that isn’t a publicity stunt. Anything that actually improves the lives of anyone but their 5000 best friends.

Well, just off the top of my head, the tax cut I got from Bush sure helped me out.  And I’m sure the Iraqis who are in the process of creating their own democratic government wouldn’t consider the war that brought that around a “publicity stunt.”

Even the hurricane rebuilding is just another example of Bush’s cronies jumping on the no-bid welfare teat.

Louisiana is so chock full of corrupt politicians, that it hardly matters whether they call themselves Democrats or Republicans. Here’s the connection between Bush and the Shaw group as reported by Reuters:

At least two major corporate clients of lobbyist Joe Allbaugh, President Bush’s former campaign manager and a former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, have already been tapped to start recovery work along the battered Gulf Coast.

One is Shaw Group Inc. and the other is Halliburton Co. subsidiary Kellogg Brown and Root. Vice President Dick Cheney is a former head of Halliburton. (more...)

Sorry WOOF, I don’t see the evidence. The first two links show the opposite of what you claimed.

Tax Bases (Percentage of GDP)

Corporate book profits year 2004 - 8.4; year 2005 - 10.5
Wages and salaries year 2004 - 45.8; year 2005 - 46.2

Granted, it is only a projection as this calender year isn’t over.

The “responsiblewealth.org” site just gives a claim.

Why does it even matter what the tax take is in regards to the GDP?

The deficit is also shrinking so your claim is also wrong there.

Your claim that we are spending too much is right on. But any time talk comes up of cutting spending you and others like you are the first to cry about it. You said before to “call it a birth tax”. Yes...that’s what I call Social “Security” and all of the Great Society programs that we’ve spent six and a half trillion dollars on. Can we cut that because it obviously isn’t working too well and is costing this nation a bundle.

I submit the following for your perusal. You see, giving tax breaks to those evil rich guys just means they have more to invest in their own companies. Which could mean hiring more people. And when that happens, the tax base increases. And when that happens, tax revenues increase.

Oh, please. Are you serious? Do you buy the WMD argument? Then why haven’t we invaded Korea?

Because unlike Hussein, Kim Jong Il actually responds to diplomacy.

Terrorist affiliations?

It’s pretty well known that Hussein offered $25,000 payments to the family of any suicide bomber who bombed Israeli interests. Sure, there may not be a definitive link to Al Qaida. But it seems too often that the anti-war left seems to think the Global War on Terror only means going to war against Al Qaida.

Then why are the Saudi Princes still part of Bush’s little circle of friends?

Probably because we’re still so damn dependent upon them for oil. Perhaps if environmental lefties would actually allow us to drill in ANWR or build another refinery, we wouldn’t be so dependent on other nations to supply

There are dozens of tinpot despots in the world, treating their serfs just as badly as Hussein ever did. We aren’t sending our soldiers to die in those countries.

Well, that’s because none of these countries has the economic and political potential that a democratic Iraq has for the entire Middle East.

Even before the 2000 elections, Neocons never made it a secret that they thought the invasion of Iraq was politically and economically necessary.

You mean Neocons like those in the Clinton Administration? Or were you not aware that regime change in Iraq has been this nation’s official policy towards Iraq since 1998?

[...] A lot of us were wondering why Cindy Sheehan was smiling when she got carried away by law enforcement officers the other day. Well, over on the Huffington Post she explains the grin: I had a huge grin on my face when I was getting arrested yesterday. I have received a lot of flak for smiling. Apparently I am not supposed to smile, but I had some really good reasons for doing so. [...]

[...] Cindy To Celebrate 2000th American Death In Grand Style October 24, 2005 05:19 PM EDT By Rob Port - Subscribe to Author Tags: cindy sheehan war on terror war in iraq anti war protest moonbat Categories: US Politics WASHINGTON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Cindy Sheehan, the military mother who made her son’s death in Iraq a rallying point for the anti-war movement, plans to tie herself to the White House fence to protest the milestone of 2,000 U.S. military deaths in Iraq.  “I’m going to go to Washington, D.C. and I’m going to give a speech at the White House, and after I do, I’m going to tie myself to the fence and refuse to leave until they agree to bring our troops home,” Sheehan said in a telephone interview last week as the milestone approached.  “And I’ll probably get arrested, and when I get out, I’ll go back and do the same thing,” she said.  The death toll among U.S. military forces since the March 2003 invasion stood at 1,996 on Sunday.  I’m sure that this time Cindy will be sure to assume a more somber, reflective appearance. Because last time she looked like she was having a jolly ‘ole time, and it sort of undermined her message.  Not that we didn’t already know she was a poseur pimping her son’s death for political gain.  You know what I think the D.C. police/secret service ought to do about Cindy’s protest? Nothing. She’s obviously angling for a photo-op here. She wants the media to get pictures and video of her getting cut and pulled away from the White House fence while screeching something requisitely nasty about the President. I think the best way to handle her is to deny her that opportunity. Let her sit there, tied to the fence, until she gets tired and goes home.  More from Rob Port can be found at SayAnythingBlog.com function getDivNode(id) { var divNode = document.getElementById(id); for (i=0;i About Gather | Careers | Contact | Privacy | User Terms of Service | Advertise on Gather Build 2505, “Christo”; Copyright © 2005 Gather Inc.
